At Strike A Light, we create events that people never imagined would or could happen in their city. We tell people’s stories through performance and create brilliant participation opportunities for young people. Gloucester is a diverse city and we make sure that the people we work with, the shows we programme and the companies we support reflect this. We believe that the arts can change lives and that everyone, regardless of background and circumstance, should be given opportunities to watch, make and participate.

FREE performance this Sunday in Gloucester! 🔥

An unlikely dance duet from two performers with 55 years between them.

Meet Gerard, who arrives with his “in memoriam” bench, looking for a good spot to rest…

What follows is an intimate, gentle and sometimes physically explosive dance between two performers from different generations.

With beautiful movement and live music, this is the kind of performance that draws you in and makes the world slow down for a moment.

What if we paid artists to… just be artists?

For too long, there have been massive inequalities in terms of who benefits from ‘The Arts’ – both as audiences and professionals.

Artists go underpaid, under-heard and under-supported. And it’s not truly open to everyone.

Over the past 3 years, we’ve employed four artists as part of our team to ‘just be artists’, with no predetermined outcomes for their activity.

Join Strike A Light Artistic Director Emma Jane and three of the LABA artists – Jamaal O’Driscoll, Viv Gordon and Ed Patrick – to chat about how the scheme came about, what the experience has been like for the artists, how it’s impacted their work, what the challenges have been and what we’ve learnt along the way.

The Multi-Story Orchestra & Strike A Light, are looking for 8 Gloucester-based music artists aged 18–25 to join an exciting new music project.

You’ll work alongside other young creatives and the The Multi-Story Orchestra team across a series of sessions to experiment, write songs and create new music together.

The work created through these sessions will be developed alongside professional artists into a new co-produced piece, which will be performed in Gloucester in summer 2027.

🔥 Fee: £120 per day (freelance role)
🔥 Application deadline: Monday 12 October, 11:59pm

PRACTITIONER TRAINING WITH OPEN THEATRE 🔥

Free training opportunity for South West based performing arts practitioners (of all disciplines).

🗓️ Saturday 7 November
⏰ 10am – 2pm
📍 Ed Shed, Gloucester

Next up, we’re joined again by Open Theatre – a physical theatre company specialising in working with young people with learning disabilities.

We had such great feedback from their last session that we invited them back. This session is open to anyone who joined us last time, as well as new participants.

The session is free but booking is essential as there are only 15 places available.

Travel bursaries for South West practitioners are available through application.
