As we're still in the midst of Child Safety Week we thought we'd briefly touch on one of the most common barriers we hear from people about fostering - the 'red tape' and policies. And yes, it's true, there are a lot of policies and procedures to follow when you become a foster carer, but we always want to remind people that these policies are there for an extremely important reason - to keep children safe (as well as our carers). Supporting children who've come from challenging backgrounds, and ensuring they experience positive family environments going forward requires a different approach, one that includes policies and guidelines. And while they may cause minor inconveniences at times, ultimately they are there for children's safety and that is something we never compromise on.

As well as being International Children's Day, it's also Child Safety Week - another topic that is extremely important to us at CFC. The safety and wellbeing of the young people in our care is always paramount, and that's why we invest heavily into finding, training, and supporting carers who share our values and vision for every child to thrive. We take this element of our jobs seriously, and we hugely appreciate all our carers for their openness and willingness to support us in this - from the very beginning, they open their hearts and homes to ensure we can provide safe, stable homes to children who need it.

As a fostering charity, Interntional Children's Day is something close to our heart. Our purpose at Community Foster Care is to enable all children to grow up in a loving family, so we help match young people with the right carer for them. And being a charity, means that every penny is reinvested back into our service, allowing us to provide bespoke support to both our young people and carers. From therapist support to family support, we prioritise the wellbeing of children and carers over profit - every time. Today, and every day, we champion the rights of children, and do what we can to ensure they have a bright future, no matter their start in life.

Half term week means activities and get-togethers for our fostering communities, and how lucky we've been to have such great weather! Up in the North, a carer organised day out at Silverhelme Scouts Camp is underway, filled with lots of fun and memories to look back on fondly!

Encouraging a sense of supportive community is so central to our goals as a fostering charity. It's a foundational pillar of foster care as we see it. When young people in care experience tight knit, supportive networks around them, it hugely encourages healing, builds resilience and promotes a strong sense of identity. It's always such a joy to see the positive effects in action in activity days like this 😁🌤

We’ve been part of the Be More Pirate conversation since 2018 because it speaks to our roots as a charity: do what’s right, challenge what doesn’t work, and stay focused on children. It felt fitting that Emma Weaver (RM) and Dan Whitson-Jones (BDM) attended the Be More Pirate leadership residential last week – a brilliant reminder that meaningful change starts with staying curious, brave and willing to keep learning.

(And great to grab this photo of Dan with Sam and Alex too!)

We’re always looking for people who share that mindset to join our fostering community. If you’ve been wondering whether fostering could be for you, reach out!

Community. It's not just a word we decided to include in our agency's name for the purpose of marketing. It's something that we strive for, a network of staff and carers coming together, lifting each other up, and doing everything we can to achieve the best results for all of our young people.

At the heart of it, we believe that this is fostering. This is what it's all about 🩷

From their pen to your eyes. What could better exemplify "This is Fostering" than one of our very own young people telling us what they hope for in a carer? This is real. This is part of what the role requires to effectively make a difference 🩷
