As we're still in the midst of Child Safety Week we thought we'd briefly touch on one of the most common barriers we hear from people about fostering - the 'red tape' and policies. And yes, it's true, there are a lot of policies and procedures to follow when you become a foster carer, but we always want to remind people that these policies are there for an extremely important reason - to keep children safe (as well as our carers). Supporting children who've come from challenging backgrounds, and ensuring they experience positive family environments going forward requires a different approach, one that includes policies and guidelines. And while they may cause minor inconveniences at times, ultimately they are there for children's safety and that is something we never compromise on.
