Who remembers the ‘Bush Babies’?

Mama Kate Bush and her babies, were rescued from truly horrendous conditions.
Rescuer Em and our fosterer Emma battled for days to reach them, literally hacking their way through the undergrowth to get these precious little souls to safety. ❤️
The whole family were unsocialised and very poorly. Getting them out of danger was just the beginning.
They needed dedicated nursing, countless vet visits, ongoing medical care and hours upon hours of patient, loving socialisation.
Enter our absolutely amazing fosterers, Marta and Em. ❤️
Their dedication, patience and devotion have been nothing short of incredible. They poured their hearts into helping this little family heal, learn to trust and discover that humans can be kind.
Because here's the thing…
Rescue doesn't end when a cat is saved. That's where the journey really begins. 🐾
The hard work doesn't stop when they're safely out of danger. Sometimes, that's when the biggest challenge begins. Healing takes time, trust takes patience, and giving these cats the chance of a happy future takes a very special kind of love.
And we simply couldn't do it without our wonderful fosterers. ❤️
The happy news? Mama Kate Bush and two of her kittens have found their forever homes!
Gavin and Duncan (black & black/white are still waiting for theirs. 🙏🏻🤞🏻

From a life of hardship and fear to the chance of a future filled with safety, comfort and love.

If we asked Em, Emma and Marta whether every exhausting day, every vet visit, every difficult moment and every ounce of hard work was worth it, we're pretty sure the answer would be a resounding YES! ❤️‍🩹

Because when you see the lives you've helped save, the trust you've helped build and the beautiful little souls who've been given a second chance, there's really no question, is there?

Now, all that's missing for Gavin and Duncan is a family of their very own.

Meet Dennis (male) and Maggie (female).
Two of the 4 babies found in a tote in the reception of Animal Trust.
They have slowly gained their confidence and have become the most loving and playful little beans!
They are such a bonded pair and are never without each other. Where there’s one, there’s the other. Whether it be playing, sleeping or pestering their foster brother.
They are completely unphased by most things, good with other cats and adore people.
They have met dogs but they would need a bit more time to get used to a cat friendly dog.
They’ve been a delight to foster and have such special, unique personalities 🩷

THE BLANKET FELT LIKE KINDNESS. BY MORNING, IT WAS COLD AND WET.

Every winter, people put soft blankets in outdoor cat shelters. It's the most loving mistake there is.

The first freezing night is coming. You've seen the stray cat behind the garage, or the little colony someone feeds near the store. So you do what any kind person would do. You find an old blanket, a towel, a soft fleece, and you tuck it into their shelter.

It feels like warmth.

But outside, fabric doesn't stay warm. It soaks up moisture: from damp air, from melting snow tracked in on paws, even from the cat's own breath. And a wet blanket on a freezing night doesn't hold heat. It pulls it away from the body lying on it.

That's why Alley Cat Allies, one of the largest community-cat organizations in the country, gives the same advice every winter:

Avoid blankets. Use straw.

Straw is the dry, hollow, golden stalk left after grain is harvested. It repels moisture instead of soaking it up. And it lets a cat do what cats do best: dig in, turn around, and burrow into a nest that holds its own body heat.

But there's a catch. Straw is not hay.

Hay is green, dried grass sold as animal food. It looks similar, but it soaks up moisture and can grow mold. A damp hay bed in winter can leave a cat cold and sick. The easiest way to tell them apart: hay usually costs two or three times more than straw.

How to make a shelter that actually keeps a cat warm:

• Fill it with straw, packed loosely, about a quarter to halfway up. No blankets, no towels, no hay.
• Keep it small. A shelter about 2 feet by 3 feet and 18 inches high holds heat better than a big one.
• Raise it off the cold ground, on a pallet or bricks.
• Add fresh straw through the season, and clear snow from the entrance after storms.
• Give extra food in winter. Calories are what a cat's body burns to stay warm.

The blanket came from the heart. The straw is what gets them to morning.

Straw for strays. Pass it on before the first freeze.

Meet Red & Angel
Red [Boy] and Angel [Girl] came to us as 4 siblings. 3/4 weeks old, scared and hungry, little souls, all huddled together... left in a delivery tote in the reception of Animal Trust. They immediately won our hearts and were taken home by Becky, Animal Trust Team.
There they slowly but surely gained their confidence and trust and with love and care have now blossomed into 9 week old Chunky Cherubs. Although we have now separated the four of them .. Red and Angel have remained incredibly bonded and don't go far from each others sides. These 2 beautiful besties are going to make an incredible addition to any household. Super confident, sassy and playful.. they are very good with other cats and are not phased by noisey environments. They adore human company and are extremely sociable little characters.

Meet Hazel
our beautiful little chatterbox
Hazel is a gorgeous 3 year old tortoiseshell girl who, sadly, has had a difficult start to life. We can’t share the details of her story just yet, but what matters most is that Hazel is now safe with us, and her next chapter can be a much happier one. ❤️
And what a character she is!
Hazel is a very talkative young lady.
In fact, when she first arrived, we thought she was growling at all the volunteers! 🤔 But then we’d gently stroke her, and she’d turn into the friendliest little lovebug, soaking up all the attention and practically asking for more cuddles. 🥰
Her voice was saying, “BACK OFF!” while her actions were saying, “Oh, go on then… another stroke, please!” 😂
It turns out that Hazel has a very clever little plan. Those growly noises are her way of telling all the other cats in the cattery to keep their distance, thank you very much, because this is HER time with the humans, and she intends to enjoy every second of it! 😹
Hazel wants all the fuss, all the strokes and all the love, and frankly, she doesn’t see why she should have to share!
For this reason, we feel Hazel would be happiest in a home where she can be the only pet, with her humans all to herself.
A home where she can chat away to her heart’s content, enjoy plenty of affection and finally settle into the safe, loving life she deserves.
After everything she’s been through, Hazel deserves someone who will give her the time, patience and love she needs to blossom.
