ALL ABOUT INDIGO WINGS

Indigo Wings is a social initiative set up by Laura Mulberry and Lu Bromfield to develop a support network for non-speaking and unreliably speaking individuals and their carers.

Lu and Laura are also creators of the forthcoming Indigo Wings Inclusivity Hub in Glastonbury, UK - read on to find out more…

INDIGO WINGS INCLUSIVITY HUB, GLASTONBURY.

A new space is quietly and lovingly taking shape in Glastonbury. Indigo Wings is developing a permanent, regulation-first environment dedicated to non-speaking and unreliably speaking individuals — a place where authentic communication, nervous system safety, and human dignity come before compliance, correction, or performance.

The Indigo Wings Inclusivity Hub will be a calm, welcoming centre where individuals can regulate, feel understood, and communicate without pressure — supported by a compassionate community of parents, carers, and practitioners.

It is a space where nervous systems can soften, communication is honoured in all its forms, and every individual is approached with curiosity rather than assumption.

WHY THIS SPACE MATTERS

We have all been deeply inspired by the many non-speakers who have shown the world their profound intelligence, insight, and inner clarity through spelling boards, eye gaze technology, and supported communication methodologies. Their courage has challenged outdated assumptions and reminded us of a powerful principle:

Presume competence - Always.
Indigo Wings exists in response to this awakening.

Too often, families navigating communication differences encounter:

Clinical environments focused on deficits
Pressure to perform or conform
Limited access to communication technology
Isolation and emotional exhaustion

We are creating something different - a space where:

Nervous systems can settle
Communication is respected in all its forms
Families feel seen and supported
Connection grows naturally

WHAT WE WILL OFFER

The Indigo Wings Inclusivity Hub will provide a regulation-first environment where the nervous system comes before instruction.

The space will be intentionally designed to be low-demand, sensory-considerate, and calm — allowing bodies and minds to settle before communication is invited.

Whilst the primary driver behind creating this space is to provide a warm, welcoming and comfortable space in which to meet others with similar stories in complete acceptance, we also want to provide access to technology and communication methodologies you may not have encountered before - so we also hope to provide access to:

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
Eye gaze technology
Spelling boards
Letter boards and typing supports
Exploration of alternative communication methodologies
Access to S2C (Spelling to communicate) Practitioners
Training for those wanting to become S2C Practitioners

ACCESSIBILITY
Accessibility and affordability will be a priority so families can explore communication tools without overwhelming financial barriers.

COMMUNITY - A place where:
Parents and carers feel seen and believed
Experiences can be shared without judgement
Hope is restored through connection
Practical resources are accessible

OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Presume Competence
Consent-Based Practice
Regulation Before Communication
Collaboration with Families
Dignity in Every Interaction

AN INVITATION TO YOU
If you are a parent, family member, carer, or someone who walks alongside non-speakers, we warmly welcome you to be part of this unfolding journey. Lets create a space together where every voice — however it is expressed — belongs.

Hello friends!! I’m after a little bit of social media help if I may…

My friend Lu and I have set up a non-incorporated association called Indigo wings which aims to help non-speaking autistic people with apraxia or similar disorders to connect and communicate via means that might not ordinarily be available to them.

Ultimately, we’d like to set up a bricks and mortar venue to use as an inclusivity hub for non-speakers, their families and carers.

The Indigo Wings Inclusivity Hub will a place where non-speaking folks and their carers can experiment with alternative forms of communication such as eye gaze technology and spelling to communicate boards.

It will also provide a space to just hang out and have some fun, meet other people in a similar situations with similar experiences in a relaxed, accessible, friendly, non-medical environment

In order to do this we need to reach as many people on social media as possible so that we can get the support we need to make this amazing project into reality.

Please can you help by liking and following the Indigo wings page? We’ve only just at the Indigo wings page up so only have a few followers at the moment… if I can tell my friends into followers of my page, it will give us a lot more social media traction.

Thank you so much in advance for your help
If you’d like to find out more about Indigo wings, please do get in touch

Much love
