From fly-tip to flowers 🌸
Many of you will remember that not so long ago this stretch outside Red Brick was home to a long-standing rubbish dump that had become a source of frustration and sadness for many people connected to the building and the local area.
Tomorrow, the area will be judged as part of Glastonbury in Bloom.
Whatever happens, we already feel like we've won something far more important.
What you're looking at in these photos is the result of local people rolling up their sleeves and working together. Huge thanks to Andy Denham and his fantastic team who not only led the original clear-up effort but also got the planting project underway, transforming what had become an eyesore into something full of colour and life.
A special thank you also to Andrew at Sweet Acre Nursery, who not only gave us a 50% discount on the first 20 plants but then generously donated many more besides. His kindness helped make the finishing touches to this transformation. 🩷
The project has then been lovingly continued by Red Brick tenants, with two tenants in particular faithfully watering the flowers throughout the season to help everything flourish.
This didn't happen because of a big budget or a grand plan. It happened because people cared.
Over recent months we've seen volunteers, tenants, local families and community members come together in ways that have genuinely inspired us. What was once a neglected corner has become a colourful welcome to the Red Brick Building and a reminder of what can happen when people work together.
If there was a Glastonbury in Bloom award for determination, community spirit and sheer transformation, we'd like to think this project would be in with a chance! 😊 Perhaps they need a special category for "Most Improved"!
Thank you to everyone who has helped make it happen. We are incredibly grateful.
