🌟Could you spare a little time to help make a big difference?

Winter Coats for Kids Appeal is looking to welcome an additional Trustee to join our small, friendly team as we continue to develop the organisation and support charitable status.

We’re looking for someone who shares our passion for helping children and families across the West of Scotland and who would like to help shape the future of the appeal. Previous trustee experience isn’t essential – commitment, integrity and a willingness to contribute are what matter most.

The role of a trustee includes:
🧥 Helping provide strategic direction and oversight for the organisation.
🧥 Supporting decisions that further our aims and benefit the communities we serve.
🧥 Helping ensure the organisation is well managed, accountable and sustainable.
🧥 Preparing for the responsibilities that come with becoming a registered charity.
🧥 Attending occasional trustee meetings and contributing your skills, ideas and experience.

This is a voluntary role and a wonderful opportunity to be part of the next stage of Winter Coats for Kids Appeal as we continue to grow and develop.

If you have a few hours to spare each month and would like to find out more, we’d love to hear from you. Please send us a private message for an informal chat—there’s absolutely no obligation. Thank you.

Did you know that the summer holiday period is typically the busiest time for jacket/coat donations ? It also means we can be very well prepared for meeting referral demands later in the year.

🌟Thanks to the Royal Bank of Scotland, Kirkintilloch, for continuing to offer a donation drop off point.

❄️ A little bit about us… ❄️

We have welcomed lots of lovely new followers recently, alongside the wonderful supporters who have been with us for years, so we thought it might be helpful to share a little about what we do.

⭐ It’s incredibly simple.

• Back in June 2019, a group of Lenzie mums realised that many children’s coats and jackets were being outgrown long before they were worn out.

• Growth spurts, changing seasons and fast-growing children often meant coats had plenty of life left in them. So, we created a simple way to pass those coats and jackets on to families who could use them.

• Since then, we have been supported by an amazing community. Schools, local businesses and community groups have helped with collections, fundraising and awareness, especially during the winter periods.

• We also have many supporters who have donated jackets year after year, and we are always incredibly grateful for such generosity, alongside newer donators.

• As the project grew, we expanded to collect adult jackets too, as well as occasional collections of clothing and footwear for all ages.
We quickly learned that it wasn’t always only the child in a family who needed support.

⭐ No forms. No complicated paperwork.

• We don’t operate a means-tested system. If someone requests a jacket, that ask is all we need to know. We simply enquire about age, size and colour preference, and we do our best to help.

It’s a model we would love to see other communities develop too.

⭐ Looking ahead…

• We’d love to grow and one day have dedicated in-person facilities in Kirkintilloch. A discreet, walk in wardrobe (particularly for teens) would be wonderful. Prom dresses (typically worn for one night) could become accessible, for no cost.

• For now, we continue to operate from our storage facilities, and the homes of volunteers. Collections continue throughout the year.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, volunteered, fundraised, shared our posts or helped spread the word over the last seven years.

We can’t repeat it enough but it’s an incredibly simple concept that makes a huge difference and also promotes sustainable fashion. A win win! 🌟

Sadly, this is not surprising. Times are very tough for many families. 😞

Many thanks to the team at the Royal Bank of Scotland, Kirkintilloch, for their continued support of our jacket and coat collections, that will run throughout the year. 👏

As we know, people often have clear-outs at different times of the year, and with the Scottish climate being so changeable 🌦️, weatherproof clothing is always in demand!

We appreciate the bank’s ongoing support in helping us collect good quality jackets and coats for those who can make use of them. Thank you to all our supporters. 😊

We are incredibly grateful that, thanks to our long-standing connections, so many people reach out to us directly to donate clothing items. It really does make a difference.

A special thank you to our long-term supporters at Millersneuk Primary for their continued generosity and support. We are also really looking forward to having a stand at the fayre this Saturday, so please come along and say hello!

Jacket donation drop-offs are always very welcome. Thank you all for your ongoing kindness and support 💙
