❄️ A little bit about us… ❄️
We have welcomed lots of lovely new followers recently, alongside the wonderful supporters who have been with us for years, so we thought it might be helpful to share a little about what we do.
⭐ It’s incredibly simple.
• Back in June 2019, a group of Lenzie mums realised that many children’s coats and jackets were being outgrown long before they were worn out.
• Growth spurts, changing seasons and fast-growing children often meant coats had plenty of life left in them. So, we created a simple way to pass those coats and jackets on to families who could use them.
• Since then, we have been supported by an amazing community. Schools, local businesses and community groups have helped with collections, fundraising and awareness, especially during the winter periods.
• We also have many supporters who have donated jackets year after year, and we are always incredibly grateful for such generosity, alongside newer donators.
• As the project grew, we expanded to collect adult jackets too, as well as occasional collections of clothing and footwear for all ages.
We quickly learned that it wasn’t always only the child in a family who needed support.
⭐ No forms. No complicated paperwork.
• We don’t operate a means-tested system. If someone requests a jacket, that ask is all we need to know. We simply enquire about age, size and colour preference, and we do our best to help.
It’s a model we would love to see other communities develop too.
⭐ Looking ahead…
• We’d love to grow and one day have dedicated in-person facilities in Kirkintilloch. A discreet, walk in wardrobe (particularly for teens) would be wonderful. Prom dresses (typically worn for one night) could become accessible, for no cost.
• For now, we continue to operate from our storage facilities, and the homes of volunteers. Collections continue throughout the year.
Thank you to everyone who has donated, volunteered, fundraised, shared our posts or helped spread the word over the last seven years.
We can’t repeat it enough but it’s an incredibly simple concept that makes a huge difference and also promotes sustainable fashion. A win win! 🌟
