Chris explains what our ‘Housing First’ programme is and he discusses how many people they have supported into homes last year. 👏🏼🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Our Principles at Housing First:
* People have a right to a home
* Flexible support is provided for as long as it is needed
* Housing and support are separated
* Individuals have choice and control
* An active engagement approach is used
* The service is based on people’s strengths, goals, and aspirations
* A harm reduction approach is used

We're so proud of our amazing volunteers.

In Edinburgh, volunteers help us across all of our services. Whether out in all kinds of weather with the Street Team, contributing to creative workshops at the Streetreads library, or helping people get much-needed digital support (and so much more!), our volunteers are vital to everything we do here at Streetwork.

We've also had the great honour of receiving three Edinburgh Inspiring Volunteers 2026 Awards in the teams categories for our Street Team, Hub team and Streetreads Library teams.

We rounded off the week with a volunteer social in Glasgow, and it was just so great to get everyone together for a proper catch-up. Because everyone is spread out across so many different services, they don't always get to cross paths, so it was brilliant to see volunteers from different services finally get to meet and talk about their roles.

Time is invaluable and our volunteers give it generously! We say it all the time, but it’s the absolute truth, we couldn’t do what we do without them.

Thank you to everyone who came along, and to our entire volunteer team for everything you do day in, day out. 💜

Thanks

Safe places, support and hope for people experiencing homelessness.

Our Edinburgh & Glasgow hubs are open.

Our street teams are out.

Every day our team are working with over 100 people in our emergency and supported accommodation services in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Lanarkshire.

We’re also helping many more people through outreach support, including Housing First.

Our 24 hour helplines are always open if you need support or see someone who might need our help. Edinburgh helpline: 0800 178 2323 | Glasgow helpline: 0800 027 7466.

It’s World Bicycle Day AND Volunteers Week, which means it’s the perfect day to celebrate our amazing Street Cycles team! 🚲🥳

For Street Cycles, bikes are an important part of how we deliver support. They , allow us to reach further to wherever we are needed, and are a sustainable way to get around.

A massive thank you to our incredible volunteers who keep our fleet moving.

Thank you to all our volunteers - past and present.

Every hour you have helped has allowed us to make a difference to the lives of people experiencing homelessness. Welcoming people in to our safe places, making cups of tea, driving our van, cutting hair, leading art sessions or creative writing groups, listening to people, painting rooms and flats, designing award winning apps ... and so much more. So much more!

We can't do it without you. Thank you.

PLEASE READ
An open letter from CEO Lorraine McGrath to our friends, supporters and partners.

2026 marks our 60th anniversary of providing safe places, support and hope to people experiencing homelessness.

https://www.simonscotland.org/2026/05/31/60th-thanks-ceo-open-letter/

Thank you for helping us provide safe places, support and hope. I can assure you that every pound you have raised or donated, every mile you have walked or run, every vote for us to be your charity partner, every cake you have baked, every raffle prize sourced or ticket bought … It has made a difference.

We will not mark this anniversary with a celebration, but with focus. We are using this moment to look forward through the lens of our refreshed Strategic Plan that we will launch later this year.

None of what SCS has ever done has been achieved alone. We thank you for standing with us over the years. Your support allows us to turn 60 years of experience into a future of meaningful change.

Please do get in touch if you have any ideas and are interested in helping us move forward.

With thanks and very best wishes
