We were back up at our allotment space on Wednesday alongside Neil from Glasgow Eco Trust and Ailee from Glasgow Community Food Network.

Members of our new employability group from On Route also popped along to help prepare the space ahead of planting, with the group getting the first planter prepped and sowed.

It was brilliant seeing the space being used in so many different ways at the one time, while also giving everyone the chance to get some fresh air, do something positive and get to know each other a bit better in a relaxed environment.

A really positive session all round and already looking forward to next week.

Some effort put in yesterday by the new members of our Strive Group.

We started the session by working through driving theory mock tests before getting three of the young people booked in for their official theory assessments.

After that, we headed up to the DRC allotment space where the group got stuck into weeding and loosening the soil in several of the planters ahead of more planting work.
Of course, no trip to the allotment would be complete without firing up the BBQ afterwards.

A really positive afternoon all round. The boys got properly involved, worked hard and were already talking about what they want to do next in the space.

A pleasure to work alongside them and great to see them taking ownership of the opportunities available to them.

Earlier in the week, local MSYP Matthew Gordon joined us to speak with a group of young people around school, health and wellbeing, and their experiences within the wider community. The young people engaged really well throughout and enjoyed the chance to have open conversations in a relaxed setting.

We also welcomed Laura from Snow Camp along to our Yoker 12–19s group to speak about their First Tracks programme and the opportunities available through getting involved.

Alongside this, it was another busy and positive session in Yoker with over 30 young people attending across the night. Pool games, music, dancing, PlayStation and plenty of toasties helping create a great atmosphere around the club.

Big thanks again to Matthew, Laura and the wider Snow Camp team for taking the time to come along and engage with our young people.

Opportunities and conversations like these really do make a difference.

Our youth workers Beth and Gordon enjoyed a wonderful final session with our group of pupils from Knightswood Primary today, rounding off this block of our primary school support sessions.

The group finished up by working in pairs to make shortbread, with staff really impressed by how well the young people communicated, took turns and supported each other throughout the session.

There was also great responsibility shown at the end, with everyone helping tidy up and look after the space.

A brilliant way to finish the block, with some fantastic feedback from both pupils and staff at the end of the session.

A big thank you to the teams at Clyde, Blairdardie, Scotstoun and Knightswood Primaries for their support throughout, and also a massive thank you to Lynne at Knightswood Secondary for helping bring everything together.

A big thank you to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for delivering an interactive water safety session with our young people tonight.

The session focused on the Rescue Hierarchy and how to safely help someone in difficulty without entering the water yourself.

Young people took part in practical exercises using throwlines and buoys, learning the correct underarm technique and how to throw beyond a casualty before pulling them to safety. There was brilliant engagement throughout, with plenty of questions and everyone getting involved in the outdoor demonstration.

The group also learned more about emergency communication and the importance of staying calm and passing on the right information when contacting emergency services.

Sessions like this are so important. With the good weather ahead, there’s every chance young people will spend time around water over the summer, so helping them understand how to respond safely in an emergency could make a real difference.

Massive thanks as well to our youth worker Claire for helping bring the session together.

Excellent work from both of our St Thomas Aquinas school support groups this week.
Our 4th year boys group were up at the DRC allotment space continuing work on the new greenhouse and making the most of the good weather while getting stuck into another hands-on project.

Meanwhile, the Health and Beauty group had another brilliant session. The girls started off with head and scalp massage work, which staff said created a really relaxed atmosphere before moving onto lash lift/LVL and lash tint treatments in the afternoon.

The results were unreal and the girls were buzzing with how they turned out.
There were also some really positive conversations throughout the day around jobs, summer plans and what comes next after school.

Another strong week all round. As always, a big thank you to Laura and the team at the school for their ongoing support.

Our 8–11s group in Scotstoun enjoyed another brilliant session outdoors in the community garden at the Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre.

The highlight of the night was definitely the BBQ. Young folk absolutely loved it!. We also packed loads into the session with games of camouflage, jungles on fire, gaga ball and finishing off with a game of football in the sun.

Sessions like this really show the value of having access to safe outdoor community spaces where young people can relax, play and just enjoy being kids.

As always, a big thank you to everyone involved at the Heart of Scotstoun for helping maintain and develop such a brilliant community asset.

Our team then headed back out on targeted streetwork across Scotstoun and Whiteinch, covering areas highlighted as hotspots for antisocial behaviour.

It was good to bump into some familiar faces, catch up with young people and let them know about our new 12–19s club nights running every Tuesday and Thursday at HOS.

Friday night saw the return of our free BMX sessions at the Glasgow BMX Centre.
We had a brilliant turnout, with plenty of familiar faces back along and some new young people getting involved too.

The sessions were originally developed to provide a positive alternative at a time when there was a rise in antisocial behaviour locally. Since then, they’ve grown into a really valued opportunity for young people across the area with a great turn out each week.

Sessions run every Friday from 5.30–8PM and are supported by our team of BMX mechanics, cycling coaches and youth workers. Access to the track, BMX bikes and safety equipment is all completely free.

We are so proud of the contribution our youth volunteers continue to make within the North West Community Pantry.

Every week they’re building up their confidence, learning new skills and playing a massive part in the day-to-day running of the shop.

Today was another productive one, with Jack getting stuck into making sandwiches and homemade coleslaw for everyone, while the rest of the volunteers supported customers around the pantry, helped with cleaning duties and carried out stock rotation.

It’s brilliant seeing the young people take ownership, support each other and grow in confidence through real responsibility and teamwork.

We’re also continuing to strengthen the link between the pantry and our community growing space at the Yoker allotments, helping young people learn more about growing, food preparation and sustainability through hands-on experience.

Crazy to think how the pantry has developed over the last 6 years. From Steph and Arthur distributing food parcels from our office space during lockdown, to the move to the old butcher's shop, and now the development of a real youth-led community asset. It's been some journey.
