Coming to you this Saturday on Trad TV - Eala McElhinney's performance at our Maket Collective Recital Series. 🎶 🎥 💜

Eala's performance was greatly inspired by her 2nd year studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Her Irish roots has led her to transcribe many tunes by Liam O'Flynn as part of her degree, including this jig named Brian O'Lynn.

Introducing the Rose & Thistle Ladies' Pipe Band!

We are very excited to be catching up with these women in Glasgow this August. The band formed in 2025 to showcase the strength, skill and spirit of women within our pipe band community, while also raising money for Cancer research & awareness.

With over 35 members, the Rose & Thistle Ladies Pipe Band is an international group of women from Australia, Canada, Germany & the US. Some of them caught up recently for a practice in Vancouver in preparation for the upcoming World Pipe Band Championships.

Look out for them at Live & down at the Green this August!

We are excited to share an exciting event from the Southern Hemisphere!

To commemorate the centenary of the Australian Ladies Pipe Band and honour their record-breaking 1925–27 world tour, Pipe Bands Victoria - PBV in collaboration with Melbourne Tartan Festival is hosting a World Record Challenge for the Largest Ladies Pipe Band. The event will be held in conjunction with Melbourne's Tartan Day Parade on Sunday July 5th and aims to foster community and inspire more girls and women across Australia to become involved in piping and drumming.

The Australian Ladies Pipe Band was the world’s first ladies’ band, formed in Melbourne in 1918 by women who had lost relatives in WW1. Their world tour saw them perform to a combined audience of more than 1 million people. However, it was not easy-going, facing criticism at the highest levels of government and society.

Sophie caught up with Rowan recently for a wee chat at the NPC. 💜🎶

Rowan is from Kilcreggan and started piping when she was 6 years old. From a young age she loved listening to the pipes and is now a very passionate and driven young piper.

She takes great inspiration from her tutor & Maket ambassador Margaret Houlihan, as well as her father Roddy (also a piper). Rowan is a committed member of the Helensburgh Clan Colquhoun Pipe Band and enjoys competing in solo competitions around Scotland.

We are thrilled to share Rowan’s passion and enthusiasm for piping, and hope her story inspires other young pipers around the world. Her story highlights the importance of creating a safe & supportive community where the experience of girls continues to be a positive and enriching one. 💜
