🌟 Strengthening Community Connections – Eastend Matters 🌟

On 11 March 2026, Eastend Matters had the privilege of attending a community engagement event hosted by the Al Gilani Foundation at the Fred Paton Building. The evening was an incredible opportunity to learn about Islamic culture, understand the significance of Ramadan, and build strong connections with the local Muslim community.

πŸ•Œ Mosque Tour & Community Engagement:
We were warmly welcomed and given a guided tour of the Al Furqan Mosque , an inspiring space that serves as both a place of worship and a hub for community support. It was enlightening to meet respected members of the Muslim community and see first-hand the positive role the mosque plays in fostering cohesion and support within the neighbourhood.

🍽️ Sharing Iftar Together:
A highlight of the evening was joining the community for Iftar, the meal that breaks the fast during Ramadan. Traditionally starting with dates and followed by a wholesome meal, Iftar is a time for gratitude, reflection, and coming together. Sharing this experience showed us the power of compassion, hospitality, and collaboration.

πŸ‘₯ Eastend Matters Attendees:
Stuart, Daryl, Declan, Peter, Connor, Victoria, and baby Daryl – each left inspired by the warmth and generosity of the community.

πŸ’¬ Member Reflections:

Daryl: β€œAttending the event gave us a really insightful look into Islamic culture. The hospitality was outstanding, and it was wonderful to meet respected members of the community.”

Peter: β€œAs a mental health organisation, this experience showed the strength and support within a different culture. The welcoming atmosphere and delicious food made the evening truly memorable.”

Declan: β€œThis event helped me immensely. I struggle with anxiety, and being in group environments can be challenging. The welcoming atmosphere allowed me to feel comfortable and take steps forward. I genuinely enjoyed the experience and am grateful for the invitation.”

🀝 Looking Forward:
We are extremely grateful to collaborate with the Al Gilani Foundation and can’t wait to see the difference we make together in our communities. By combining our efforts, knowledge, and compassion, we hope to create lasting impact, strengthen connections, and support residents from all backgrounds.

πŸ™ Thank You:
A huge thank you to the Al Gilani Foundation for their hospitality and for creating an inclusive space where people can come together, share experiences, and build mutual understanding. Events like this are vital in promoting compassion, collaboration, and community cohesion.

We want to take a moment to speak from the heart.

Recently, Eastend Matters has faced two major incidents that have truly rocked the core of our organisation. It’s been a difficult period for everyone involved, but it has also reminded us why we exist β€” to support, uplift, and stand together as a community when times are tough.

Out of adversity, we want to create something positive.

We are currently organising a charity fundraising initiative in support of SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health), a mental health charity that closely aligns with our values and the work we do every day. Mental health matters, now more than ever, and we want to do our part to give back and help others who may be struggling.

As part of this, we are planning a charity walk starting at Firhill Stadium, continuing to Ibrox Stadium, then onto Hampden Park, and finishing at Celtic Park β€” bringing communities together across the city for a powerful cause.

Alongside this, we will also be running football cards to help raise additional funds. The football cards will be split **50% to the winner and 50% donated to SAMH**, helping us support a truly important cause while giving people a chance to get involved.

We’ll be sharing more details soon about how you can get involved, donate, or take part in the walk. Your support β€” whether that’s participating, donating, or simply sharing β€” means the world to us.

Together, we can turn a challenging time into something meaningful and make a real difference for those who need it most πŸ’š

Today (05/02/2026), Stuart and Daryl attended a workshop hosted by Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership at Barlia Football Centre, Glasgow. The session focused on su***de contagion awareness and practical approaches to responding effectively if concerns arise.

We are committed to participating in training like this, as it strengthens our understanding, builds confidence in handling sensitive situations, and helps us identify the correct support pathways and signposting options for those who may need them. Members within the organisation will also be attending further training courses and workshops in the coming months to ensure we remain informed, prepared, and able to support our community effectively.

We would also like to thank the organisations and participants who were learning alongside us and who took the time to speak with us about what Eastend Matters is all about. These conversations and shared experiences are greatly valued. In particular, we would like to acknowledge Lifelink, Aberlour Children's Charity and Early Effective Intervention.

Thank you to the organisers and all partner organisations who contributed to such an informative and valuable workshop. We appreciate the opportunity to learn alongside you and look forward to continued collaboration in the future

Today some members of Eastend Matters went out today for a Christmas get-together, enjoying a game of bowling and some food together.

We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their incredible efforts this year since we formed. Your support and dedication mean more than words can say, and we are excited for all the new and exciting things ahead in 2026.

We still have one final event on Christmas Eve, where we will be helping the homeless. We truly appreciate all donations β€” they help more than you will ever know.

We’d like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you all back on the 8th of January.

12/12/2025

We at Eastend Matters are planning to go out on Christmas Eve around 8pm to support people in our local community who are sleeping rough. We want to make sure no one in the East End is forgotten at a time of year that can feel especially harsh and lonely.

We’ll be offering a warm meal, making sure they have essentials to keep warm, and signposting them to any accommodation or support available. Even small acts of kindness can make a huge difference to someone facing the cold on their own.
If you’re not able to join us but would still like to help, donations of warm clothing, hats, gloves, socks, blankets, or a few pounds toward meals would be hugely appreciated. Every donation will go directly to the people we meet on the night.
Thank you for any support you can offer β€” it truly matters
