Seems I may have embarrassed the apparently redundant, ever-virtuous “Tenants Association” into finally doing something vaguely related to what a tenants association is actually supposed to exist for.

Oh well, whatever gets the job done. 😂

Although I could have sworn they were adamant they “don’t get involved in housing issues.” Perhaps there’s more to being a tenants association than simply running a hall after all.🤔

😂 Amazing what a little inadvertent humiliation of the “residents association” over getting their own house in order around the hall can achieve.

Although, unsurprisingly, it wasn’t the 12-strong committee, complete with their own lawnmower and strimmer, who got it done. The credit appears to go once again - to our hardworking resident concierge team instead.

You couldn’t make it up.

Perhaps next they’ll be encouraging others to maintain the planter boxes they’ve decided upon having and championed throughout Acre.

Is that really the case though?

So, for context, this is Wheatley’s NETS team container, that allows them to store everything they need to carry out their work. It was due to be positioned behind 91 Acre Road, but because resurfacing works were taking place on the road and car park last week, an on the spot decision was taken to temporarily position it here rather than send it back. I’ve also been assured it will be repositioned to its permanent location in due course.

Now, if people in Acre really are up in arms about this, it would be good to hear from you.

Are you unhappy about it?

Were you also told it’s only a temporary measure as confirmed at the time?

The reason I ask is that we’ve apparently reached the stage where “people in Acre”, and even the local shop, are being cited as evidence of community dissatisfaction. Is that really the case?

Who are the people?
How many are there?
Were you asked your opinion?

Or is this simply another example of broad claims being made on behalf of the community, without any evidence to support them?

It’s difficult not to wonder whether the objection stems less from the container itself, and more from the fact that the decision to place it there, was made independently of the hall. Looks instead like someone’s nose is out of joint and needs the perception of community outrage to highlight it.

If however, you really are one of the unhappy residents (as claimed), it would be good to know why. If you’re not, that’s worth knowing too.

In the meantime, at least everyone now knows the full picture. This was only ever a temporary arrangement because of resurfacing works, and the container will be repositioned to its permanent location in due course.

Hopefully there’s no protests planned 😂.

This has been an ongoing issue for quite some time and is affecting numerous closes and blocks throughout Acre. This particular one has scalding hot water coming out. The problem appears to be the failing ball cranks within the boilers which it’s causing the overflow. It’s been reported to Wheatley and they have it logged as urgent and will inspect the rest of the estate for similar issues.

It really is concerning that although there’s an organisation in the community that is supposed to be the representative of tenants and residents in Acre, that we can look about, witness the disrepair, witness the lack of investment and the lack of interaction with residents, to hear their voices and concerns exists without challenge. What’s the point? This community deserves more. This community could very easily become the standard that other communities aspire to be. We are all paying top dollar to be able to live here and this should reflect on the surroundings . Poor water pressure and such like, is not a put up and shut up situation, or the be all and end all. Increasing rent and factoring bills go unchallenged. there are so many ways to interact with the social landlord and Glasgow city council to make this place better. What’s in place at the moment obviously doesn’t work and we need a new approach.

🌳 University of Glasgow Tree Works Update

You’ll remember that storm we had back January 2025, where a number of trees fell across Acre Rd. Luckily, no one was hurt.

Having been in touch over that time, we asked for another update as there was more work recently carried out.

The University has confirmed that:

✅ A total of 8 Sitka spruce trees have now been removed from the site.

✅ All hanging branches that posed a risk of falling have also been removed.

✅ The area has now been added to a regular inspection programme, with ongoing monitoring of the remaining tree stock.

✅ Further tree removal will be carried out where trees decline with age or where inspections following significant storms identify any safety concerns.

This is a positive step and provides reassurance that the site will continue to be monitored rather than simply left following the incidents.

We’ll continue to share any further updates as they become available.

Good news regarding the carpark behind 91 Acre Rd.

Glasgow City Council has confirmed that resurfacing works will be carried out to the car park and access road serving Nos. 79 to 91 Acre Road between Wednesday 15 July and Friday 17 July.

I’m delighted to see these long awaited works finally taking place. The condition of the car park has been a concern for quite some time, so this will be a welcome improvement for residents.

It’s taken around 18 months of persistence to reach this point, so it’s genuinely pleasing to see the works now scheduled.

Please be aware that temporary road closures and parking restrictions will be in place while the resurfacing is carried out.

***UPDATE*** Maryhill Road has now reopened both ways at Acre and Shiskine. Busses are now back on this route. Temporary traffic lights and signage has been remove but traffic lights at the Maryhill Rd / Shiskine Dr are not working.
