We are absolutely delighted that our anti-racist film club will soon be returning, after a long break. We will be screening four films over the autumn/winter months.

All films will be screened at GAMH/Flourish House, from 5.30-9.00pm, with light refreshments and discussion to go alongside every film.

- 27th October - Dreamers (2025)
- 17th November - Taste Of Mango (2023)
- 1st December - Sister Midnight (2025)

This week we had a wonderful afternoon spent with our friends and partners at Al Furqan Mosque . We shared some food together, which was picked from our Community Garden, salad leaves & fresh herbs and also enjoyed some falafel from . Our garden volunteers lovingly picked some flowers and fresh herbs from our Community Garden to gift to the Mosque.

We are proud to have this ongoing partnership with our neighbours, and we loved learning more about the amazing community outreach and support they offer.

After our break in July, the anti-racist library is back, and going monthly for the rest of 2026!

This Sunday, 2nd August we will be in Millennium Park from 11AM - 2PM . Our theme this month is South Asian Heritage Month 📚
As well as the usual books and conversation we will have
- children's stories at 11.30am
- a reading from "She Settles In The Shields" at 1pm
- Migrants rights Network workbook "We Keep Each Other Safe" for people to look at, in English and in Arabic
- our Language Exchange will be there, with a focus on Tamil

If you have books you have borrowed, and have now finished with, pleas bring them back to us at the library or pop them in the book returns box in the community garden, any time

Woodlands Anti-Racist Community Library is back on the 2nd of August with some changes…

For the next six months, the library will be running on the first Sunday of every month so mark it in your calendars ‼️
Each session will last three hours, from 11:00AM to 2:00PM ☀️

The library sessions will also be organised by theme and will include a range of activities drawing on this theme, from children’s storytelling sessions, to arts and crafts, music and more 📚✂️🎶🍎

📢 Our Warm Welcome Cafe will reopen on Sunday, 9th August at 12 pm at Gamh Community Hub, 23-25 Ashley St, Glasgow G3 6DR. We will be open every Sunday from then on.📢

We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Chef Superstar Luna Issa on her new job role at Woodlands Community as our Community Food Co-Ordinator! Although Luna has worked for us regularly on a session basis for 3 years, we are delighted to now welcome her to the core staff team and can't wait to see everything she brings to the table. We feel very lucky!

About Luna:
Luna Issa is an Iraqi-Scottish artworker, community chef and food writer. Her work is centered around a passion for Iraqi and SWANA (Southwest Asian and North African) art and culture, and spans cooking, curation and production. She is invested in community-building, both local and diasporic.

She runs SUMAG, an Iraqi-inspired food project, and is a co-founder of WSHWSH, a community-centred SWANA club night and events collective. Luna's recently released cookbook, A Plate Is A Homeland, explores what it means to live and cook in diaspora and features plant-based Iraqi-Scottish recipes.

Migrants' Rights Network have produced a helpful workbook about keeping safe from far right violence. It was co-developed through research with migrants and migrant-led organisations, and is a practical guide book for people currently under threat from the current wave of violence and hostility.

Join us for this informative session, "Summer Sowing for Winter Vegetable Growing" with Nadia Russell from the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh’s amazing team.

Now is the ideal time to prepare for growing vegetables over the winter months. In this session we will learn how to increase the productivity of our plots by growing crops year-round.

This workshop is aimed at anyone growing their own crops into the autumn and window you do not need your own plot in the community garden to join this event. The session is suitable for adults rather than children.

Woodlands Community Garden is partially wheelchair accessible; we are currently working on a Garden Accessibility Project with Woodlands Community Accessibility Steering Group to make our Garden more inclusive.
There is no bathroom in the Community Garden. However, during the workshop access to a wheelchair accessible, gender-neutral toilet is made available. The toilet is located approximately 100 metres away in the Woodlands Community Meeting Room at 66 Ashley St, G3 6HW.

A BIPOC Solidarity Travel Fund has been set up across local groups to redistribute funds across our communities in response to on-going increases in far right violence in Glasgow. This mutual aid travel fund is available to all Black, Brown and Racialised people living in Glasgow.
To claim: you can request up to £50 per person/per month, in any form of amount/s that works best for you, no questions asked.

We have an announcement…

The Woodlands Anti-Racist Community Library will be taking a break this July, but returning on the 2nd of August with an exciting new structure for the rest of the year.

We want to make folk aware of our journey so far [which is still very much in progress] in establishing our Natural Dye Garden at Woodlands Community Garden. Thanks to our amazing Garden Volunteers, we have been growing Madder, Indigo, Dyer’s chamomile seeds, Woad and Weld. We are excited about their potential and keen to encourage knowledge-sharing about these magical plants that hold so much creative potential!
