We, at Woodlands, are glad to be part of Refugee Festival Scotland again this year. Our community event on Sunday will be a celebration of migration - of people, of seeds, of food, of language, of culture - all the things that make our diverse community so rich, warm and welcoming. We feel it is more important than ever to show solidarity with marginalised people, and we are a proudly anti-racist organisation.

As part of the event, we will have a quiet space indoors where anyone can go for some peace and respite from the hubbub, or if anyone is feeling vulnerable or scared.

We are taking additional precautions so that staff, volunteers and participants can be and feel safe during the event.

We are also a committed member of Refuweegee Safe With Me network.

On Sunday, the 14th of June, there will also be an exciting opportunity to read a A Plate is a Homeland, a new book by Luna Issa, whose delicious and nourishing food you may have eaten before at our Warm Welcome Cafe or community celebrations!📚🥘

A Plate Is A Homeland is a collection of new writing, reflection and plant-based recipes exploring what it means to live and cook in diaspora. Drawing on her lived experience as an Iraqi-Scot, Luna Issa ruminates on how identity is shaped by food – growing it, preparing it, cooking it, sharing it – in dialogue with fellow chefs and writers.
