A selection of photographs Paul captured of the students at Saint John's School for the Deaf, Serekunda, Gambia, over the past week.this is really what its all been about for Project Gambia: People Feeding People over the past 14 years: ensuring marginalised and disadvantaged children access education through school feeding programmes. Look at these children and know that is us unlikely they would be in a classroom without your support. Education + Food = a route out of poverty for children in developing countries 🇬🇲 🙏

If you are in any doubt that Project Gambia changes lives for the better please watch this short video. Head Teacher of Saint Anthony's Lower Basic School and Nursery School, Marie Ellen Jarjue, and the children at the school tell you just how much the free school dinners they receive from you mean to them. Not only that but the children tell you about the varied menus and options they are presented with thanks to you. What you do through your support of our school feeding programmes is no theoretical abstraction but solid, practical, nutritional, hunger removing, support for young people with little or nothing. Project Gambia: People Feeding People volunteers and supporters have contributed so much and have enabled thousands of children to complete their education. Education + Food = A route out of poverty for children in developing countries 🇬🇲

Project Gambia heads out to The Gambia today into a developing crisis of epic proportions on the back of the America/Israel war with Iran. In a society where farmers depend heavily on imported fertiliser and a huge share of household income goes on food, supply chain disruptions through the strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping lane not just for oil and gas but also for fertiliser, is beginning to have a massive impact on the price of foodstuffs and is intensifying cost of living pressures.

XN Iraki, a professor of business and economics at the University of Nairobi, said the impact of higher oil prices would be felt “acutely” in Africa because most people on the continent worked in the informal sector, where there was “uncertain income”.This crisis will be significantly worse in The Gambia which is the fifth poorest country in Africa. When Paul Lafferty attempts to conduct business with wholesalers and warehouses to purchase rice and other foodstuffs for Saint John's School for the Deaf, Serekunda, and Saint Anthony's Lower Basic School and Nursery School he will be confronted with significant price rises.

If you can help Project Gambia now there would never be a better time. In a society where hundreds of thousands are one meal away from hunger now is the time. Education + Food = A route out of poverty for children in developing countries

Everything about Project Gambia: People Feeding People is a miracle, how the project started, how we found the school, how we saved up money to purchase enough food to keep the kids fed for 6 weeks, how the school actually managed to keep the school open before we arrived. How good people we knew back in Scotland began to sponsor classrooms, how we managed to start a school feeding programme thousands of miles from our homes, how we supplied every single pupil in the school with 2 school uniforms, how we got Muhammad Cham to Scotland to be operated on to give him hearing for the first time in his life, how we supplied thousands of hearing aids to the school and wider commimunity, how we got the school cleaned, painted and refurbished, how we supplied the school with 2 coaches to get children to school from outlying districts, how with your support we've kept this going for 14 years. No rich benefactors, millionaire philanthropists, or corporate donations. Just the support of ordinary people, people just like us. Education + Food = A route out of poverty for children in developing countries 🇬🇲

Walking out of Mossend Chapel on Saturday evening a couple caught my attention. The man says to me "I've been trying to get a hold of you for weeks now but always seem to miss you". They asked me to drop into their house and I did that this morning. The family have been raising money for years for Father Peter's Street Children which supports abandoned kids in Bogota and Cartagena in Columbia "but we want to help Project Gambia: People Feeding People as well. These lovely people, who wish to remain anonymous, presented me with a generous donation to be put towards the free school dinners we provide to marginalised and disadvantaged school children every school day in Africa. Deeply appreciated support from 2 lovely people 🙏
