📢 🟨 WAVERLEY ANNOUNCES EXTRA LIVERPOOL CRUISE DATE

Due to a change in berth availability at Holyhead, the world-famous paddle steamer Waverley has been able to add an extra sailing from Liverpool on Friday 19 June. The additional cruise offers passengers a rare opportunity to sail aboard the World's last seagoing paddle steamer as she celebrates the 80th anniversary of her launch.

Waverley will depart Liverpool at 9.45am on Friday, then sets course for Llandudno where passengers can spend time ashore exploring the Victorian seaside town, its famous promenade, independent shops and attractions.

Passengers can alternatively remain onboard for a spectacular coastal cruise viewing Great Orme and onward towards Puffin Island, enjoying magnificent views of the North Wales coastline from the ship's open decks and traditional observation lounges.

The extra sailing comes after strong demand for Waverley's Liverpool programme, with all other Liverpool departures having been sold out for several weeks.

Waverley’s General Manager, Paul Semple, said, "We are delighted to offer this additional sailing from Liverpool at short notice. Demand for our Liverpool cruises has been exceptionally strong this season, and this extra berth availability has given us the opportunity to welcome more passengers aboard.

Whether passengers choose to enjoy time ashore in Llandudno or stay aboard for the full coastal cruise to Puffin Island, they can look forward to a memorable day out aboard this unique historic vessel."

HAPPY 79th BIRTHDAY WAVERLEY! 🥳🚢

79 years ago today, on 16th June 1947, Waverley made her maiden voyage from Craigendoran to Rothesay, and then up Loch Long and Loch Goil to Arrochar.

Waverley entered service as the new post war paddler built for the London & North Eastern Railway. She was the last paddle steamer to be built for Clyde service, but would unknowingly become the World’s last seagoing paddle steamer.

Waverley returns to Glasgow & the Clyde Coast from Friday 26th June to Sunday 30th August 2026.

Book online at waverleyexcursions.co.uk or call the Booking Office on 0141 243 2224 (Mon-Fri 0930-1630, Sat 0930-1300).

Rush hour in Ilfracombe is when Waverley arrives on a Sunday afternoon to do a turnaround of over 1,000 passengers. Check out these images supplied by Allan Smith of her at Ilfracombe. 📷🚢

Waverley departed Penarth this morning (Sunday 14th June) with over 600 passengers with the majority cruising down Channel to visit glorious Devon and the popular town of Ilfracombe - in the same way that previous generations took steamer trips from South Wales to North Devon.

After a short call at Ilfracombe Waverley then offered an afternoon cruise viewing Bull Point Lighthouse and down towards Hartland Point.

MONDAY 15TH JUNE 👇

Monday 15th June will be Waverley’s last visit to Ilfracombe for 2026 when she sets sail at 3:50pm for a cruise along the North Devon coast and up the River Torridge to Bideford. There is the option to join Waverley at Ilfracombe or Bideford departing 7pm for an evening cruise down the River Torridge and back to Ilfracombe.

Tickets can be booked online at waverleyexcursions.co.uk or purchased on board Waverley when you sail.

We look forward to welcoming passengers aboard for this very special evening in support of one of Britain's most remarkable piers.

Clevedon Pier first opened in 1869 to welcome paddle steamer passengers from Devon and Wales. Today, it remains a thriving centre for heritage, education and community events.

The partnership between Waverley and Clevedon Pier is a special one, bringing together two historic attractions committed to protecting our maritime heritage for future generations.

We remain extremely grateful to the trustees, staff and volunteers at Clevedon Pier for their continued support, which helps ensure Waverley can return each year.

Just look at Waverley’s massive starboard paddle wheel in action 👀🚢

Paddle Facts - Did you know?

• Waverley’s paddle wheels are connected directly to the engine with a single shaft, this means both paddle wheels turn in the same direction at the same time. They can’t be turned independently meaning she has a large turning circle.

• Waverley’s paddle wheels are feathering - this means as the paddles turn on the wheel the angle of the paddle changes therefore they enter the water at the most efficient angle for maximum push.

• Each paddle wheel has 8 floats (paddles), each float is made of 4 boards of opepe wood. That’s 64 boards driving her along.

• Waverley’s paddle wheels turn around 42 times a minute at normal cruising speed, therefore with 8 floats per wheel that’s 336 beats a minute or over 5 beats a second per wheel - they really do move fast.

Next time you look through the port holes on board or see the paddles turning from ashore you may think twice just how amazing they are ❤️🤍🖤🚢
