Sharing another incredibly busy and inspiring week at AUGB Glasgow! 💙💛
📸 From 11 to 16 August, we delivered multiple free sessions across 10 different activity formats for children, teenagers, young people, adults and older members of our community — from music, film and art to English classes, youth development sessions and practical professional workshops.
For us, each activity is about much more than simply spending time together. Through our programmes, participants develop practical skills, grow in confidence, make new connections, stay connected to Ukrainian culture and gradually build new social networks in Scotland.
👥 Seniors Club
This week, our Seniors Club went for a walk in the park — and an ordinary get-together unexpectedly turned into a wonderful moment of cultural exchange.
During the walk, participants met a local resident who turned out to be an opera singer — and she gave our group a spontaneous opera performance right there in the park! 🎶
Moments like this are particularly meaningful to us, as they give Ukrainians opportunities not only to spend time together, but also to meet local residents, practise communication and feel increasingly connected to the wider Scottish community.
🎵 Together Through Music
Two music sessions took place this week, and our group has already started working on their first songs together.
Alongside developing vocal skills, the group itself is beginning to grow stronger: participants are learning to listen to one another, sing together, build confidence and create something collectively.
Together Through Music is still open to new participants — we would be very happy to welcome new members! 🎤
🚀 Level Up for Youth
At the latest session of our personal development programme for young people, we explored networking and were delighted to welcome new participants.
Through practical exercises, young people developed skills in introducing themselves, communicating confidently, presenting themselves and building new connections.
Sessions like this help participants become more confident communicators, present themselves and their ideas more effectively, and understand how social and professional networks can support future education, employment, volunteering and personal projects.
👉 The next Level Up session takes place this Saturday and will focus on Project Management.
🎬 Documentary Filmmaking
Our documentary filmmaking course is moving from theory into real hands-on practice!
This week, participants filmed their first three short practice videos, experimenting with filming, composition, teamwork and visual storytelling.
The practical filming exercises support not only technical development, but also communication and teamwork. Participants are learning to negotiate ideas, divide roles, develop creative concepts together and support one another throughout the production process.
There are still three sessions ahead, with participants gradually moving towards the development of their own documentary projects 🎥
🎨 Art Classes for Children
This week, children worked with portraiture during their creative session.
Through drawing, participants developed observation skills, artistic techniques and their individual creative style, while also communicating with one another, creating alongside other children and becoming more confident in sharing their work.
🌻 Explore Ukraine Club
At the latest Explore Ukraine Club session, children continued discovering Ukraine through interactive activities, creativity and music.
We explored Ukrainian culture, sang together and discovered new aspects of our heritage.
For children growing up in Scotland, sessions like these help maintain a living connection with Ukrainian culture and identity while also providing opportunities to make new friends and feel part of a community.
🎨 Logo & Brand Design Workshop
On Sunday, we held our four-hour Logo & Brand Design Workshop with graphic designer Anastasiia Hlushchenko.
Participants did much more than simply listen to a presentation about design — they actively experimented, completed practical exercises and worked on creating their own logos.
Over four intensive hours, young people gained practical experience in branding, composition, colour, visual identity and the process of developing a logo from an initial idea to their own finished concept.
Workshops like this give participants the chance to try professional skills in practice and better understand whether a particular creative field could become a future interest, area of study or career path.
🧭 This Saturday, we continue our practical workshop series with Career Compass.
📚 English Class — A1
Our participants continue developing practical English skills, expanding their vocabulary and gradually becoming more confident using English in everyday life.
For many participants, language classes are about much more than learning English — they are also an important step towards greater independence, confidence and more comfortable integration into life in Scotland.
💬 English Speaking Club
The Speaking Club provides a more informal space for practising spoken English.
Participants communicate, discuss different topics, learn to express their thoughts more quickly and gradually become more confident speaking English outside a traditional classroom environment.
🎬 Ukrainian–Scottish Film Club
This week, our Film Club once again became a space for genuine Ukrainian–Scottish cultural dialogue.
We watched the Ukrainian classic The White Bird Marked with Black, followed by a shared discussion with Ukrainian and Scottish audience members.
For Ukrainian participants, it was particularly interesting to share their own understanding of the film’s historical and cultural themes while also hearing how the same story was interpreted by people who did not grow up within the Ukrainian cultural context.
It is through conversations like these that film becomes much more than a screening — it creates space for questions, for sharing Ukrainian history and culture, and for developing greater understanding between communities 🇺🇦🏴
💙 What did we achieve this week?
In just one week, AUGB Glasgow participants:
✨ created their first videos and their own logos;
✨ practised networking and communication skills;
✨ sang together and began working on their first group songs;
✨ developed practical English for everyday life;
✨ explored Ukrainian culture and heritage;
✨ created artwork;
✨ formed new friendships and social connections;
✨ interacted with the local community;
✨ shared Ukrainian cinema, history and culture with Scottish audiences.

We are especially proud to see not only the number of activities taking place, but their real outcomes: new skills, greater confidence, first creative projects, new connections and meaningful Ukrainian–Scottish cultural exchange.
