☀️ Water Safety - Please Share ☀️

It is important to talk to children and young people about their safety if they are playing near the water. Have a conversation about it and explain:

They should never swim in an unsupervised area like lochs, rivers or ponds where there isn't an adult to help if they get into difficulties. It is much safer to go to a swimming pool where there is a lifeguard on duty.

They shouldn't play with or touch life-saving equipment like life rings by the side of waterways. That equipment might be used to save someone's life.

Open water can become very cold just a few feet under the surface and can cause cramps or cold water shock. Swimming in unsupervised water can be extremely dangerous, even for the most experienced swimmer.

☀️ Entering the good weather also brings some worrying times. Here is some careless individuals not only disregarding their own safety but also removing a lifebelt 🛟 from the bridge which could result in the loss of life of another. We can not stress enough how important life belts are. This is seriously dangerous, careless & shows complete stupidity.

"Hi, this nonsence is not ok! These kids decided to climb onto the bridge at the Clyde in the city centre and drop the life ring into the water then went on to climb back and forth over the rail.
Reckless, daft and dangerous behaviour. Behave yourselves as this could end up deadly. If you fall in that water you might not come back out. Thanks" PEOPLEDOCARE

🏃 Edinburgh 10K - 23rd May
🏃 Helensburgh 10K - 28th May
💪 Tough Mudder 15K - 6th June

That’s 35 kilometres of running, obstacles, mud, water and, if we’re being realistic, a fair amount of suffering

Saturday saw lots of action on the river with 39 races, over 80 competitors and a total of 9 rowing clubs. Well done to all who completed and those who won. The Glasgow Humane Society had a good team of volunteers out to make sure that all the action was safety covered. Thank you once again to for hosting a wonderful day of racing.

has been down at the Humane Society this week for their S3 Activity Week. They’ve been helping out on the river and in the yard and they were learning how to throw life rings. It wasn’t all work though as they also had great fun magnet fishing and driving the speed boat! Thanks once again to the school and their pupils. Until next year!

Have a great weekend everyone. Thanks to all 15 of you who turned out in "changeable ' weather this afternoon. We finished up at Glasgow's Humane Society base, where we presented our latest cheque to this great operation.
More than 30 years older than the RNLI, they are responsible for everyone's safety on our River Clyde.

Our team has made a different sort of discovery today, this very recent artwork was discovered under the George V Bridge by our team during an early morning patrol of the River.

It looks as though the Clyde has already began to wash away some of the artwork. Could this be a Banksy? Who knows?

We urge members of the public to take extreme care if they do wish to view the artwork in public. Do not climb over any railings or attempt to enter the water.
