Let’s normalise talking about trade union membership!

As PCS Union members, let’s make it completely normal to talk to all our colleagues about trade union membership.

HMRC policy states that it encourages all members of staff to join a trade union - and that’s something we welcome!
But here’s the thing: PCS strongly encourages all colleagues to join too - and, where you can, to get actively involved.

With so much happening across HMRC and the wider Civil Service, there has arguably never been a more important time to have a strong, organised voice at work.

Whether you’re already a PCS member, thinking about joining, or simply want to find out more - have a chat with a colleague. You might be surprised how many people are already members. (The majority in HMRC Glasgow)

The more of us who stand together, the stronger our voice.

The PCS Parliamentary Group has written to the paymaster general to ask the government to pause and reassess awarding the Synergy payroll contract to Capita, in light of their "disastrous" handling of civil service pensions.

Many PCS Union members may have seen the recent social media post from the PCS General Secretary regarding the events following the NEC meeting on 11 June.

As a branch, we stand with the majority of the democratically elected National Executive Committee (NEC) and support the statement issued by the PCS President, Deputy President and the elected NEC majority.

Conference made clear decisions on the priorities for our union: delivering a serious national campaign on pay, jobs, job security, hybrid working and defending members’ rights. We believe those democratically agreed policies must now be implemented in full and without further delay.

The statement sets out the NEC majority’s concerns about recent events and explains why they are calling for the GS - Fran Heathcote to work constructively with the elected NEC in the interests of ALL PCS members.

PCS is a democratic union. Conference is our sovereign decision-making body, and the elected NEC has a responsibility to carry out the policies agreed by members through Conference.

We encourage members to read the statement in full and make up their own minds. As a branch, we remain committed to supporting the elected NEC majority as they seek to deliver the campaigning union that members voted for and deserve.

Your Glasgow BEC voted in favour of writing to the general secretary as described in the attached.

✊ Pay. Jobs. Job Security. Hybrid Working. Democracy. These are the issues that matter most to our members, and they must remain our union’s priority.
