Glasgow University Linguistics Society Welcome to GU Linguistics Society! Our aim is to organise social events for those studying English Language and Linguistics at the University of Glasgow.

The Glasgow University Linguistics Society is open to all students with an interest in English Language & Linguistics, whether or not you study it at university. Whether you're a bright-eyed first year or in Senior Honours, a native or non-native speaker, new to the field of English Language or a lifelong obsessive over the finer points of grammar, you are welcome to be a part of LingSoc. Over the

year we hope to provide opportunities for members to socialise through fun and unusual events (some with probably quite loose linguistic-themed links) and to engage further with their particular linguistic interests, whatever they may be. We are always looking for people to come and have a say in the running of the society; if you have ideas for particular events you think we should organise then get in touch by email or come along to one of the events advertised on the page.

Hello all! As the semester is coming to an end, we would love to invite tou to our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the 24th March 2026, 5-6pm. Location tbc. This meetinf will include an agenda of committee elections for 2025-2026 and all other aspects of our society.

We are hosting a study session next Thursday before a lecture being hosted for Scotland’s Language Week. Come find us from 2:30-4pm at the Stella Lab! 📖

The lecture is “Liberate women from the burden of family”: The representation of feminism 女权 and related issues in The People’s Daily by Zijin You. It will be at 4:15 in 587 Adam Smith Building followed by a wine reception hosted in the atrium.

Next Monday we are doing a pub quiz for Scotland’s Language Week. Come along to the Den at the Record Factory at 7pm on 2nd February!

We’ve got prizes for 1st place and runners up funded by the College of Arts and Humanities from Glasgow University 🎁 We’ll also have themed rounds for each society!
