Tonight ✨ Exhibition launch

Join us this evening for the launch of [un]Faithful Reinstatement — a new exhibition asking what Glasgow can learn from Mexico City about saving heritage buildings.

Exploring adaptive reuse, working with decay, and being deliberately “unfaithful” to original designs, the exhibition looks at how historic buildings can be reactivated for contemporary use.

🎉 Drop-in launch event
🕓 Today, 4–7pm
📍 Glasgow City Heritage Trust, 54 Bell Street, Glasgow
🎟 Free entry

Can’t make it tonight? The exhibition is open Wed–Fri, 10am–4pm until 27 February.

What can Glasgow learn from Mexico City about saving heritage buildings?

From Art Deco townhouses to layered ruins brought back into use, [un]Faithful Reinstatement looks at how architects in Mexico City are reactivating historic buildings — not through purist restoration, but by working with what already exists.

This exhibition explores what those approaches might offer Glasgow, challenging how we think about reuse, regulation and risk.

🎉 Drop-in launch event:

🕙 Exhibition open Wed–Fri, 10am–4pm

We were delighted to attend the opening of the ‘Equitable Communities of Health in the Climate Era’ exhibition at the University of Glasgow Advanced Research Centre yesterday evening.

The project invites final-year Product Design students at The Glasgow School of Art to explore equitable health through the creation of speculative future worlds and communities, imagining new personal, population, public and planetary experiences ten years from now.

Thank you to Programme Leader Kirsty Ross for inviting GCHT to take part as members of the expert input panel this year. It was fascinating to discuss the students’ ideas with them and to watch their concepts develop over the course of the project. Working in partnership with other organisations and educational institutions is hugely important to us, and opportunities like this allow us to share knowledge, learn from others, and support innovative thinking around health and climate challenges, and how it relates to the built environment.

If you’d like a glimpse into the future- and to see some innovative and inspiring ideas for creating more equitable healthcare in the climate era- make sure and visit the exhibition:

Remembering Glasgow’s forgotten women

Recently, the Glasgow Times reported on growing calls for a memorial to mark the site of Glasgow’s Lock Hospital for “Unfortunate Females” — an institution that shaped (and scarred) the lives of thousands of women and girls, yet remains largely unmarked in the city today.

The campaign is being led by historian Anna Forrest, who also wrote our in-depth blog exploring the history of the building, the women confined there, and the social attitudes that allowed this chapter of Glasgow’s past to be forgotten.

📖 In our blog, Anna looks beyond the building itself to tell the human stories behind it — and asks what remembrance, accountability and compassion might look like today.

Remembering difficult histories matters — especially when those histories centre voices that were silenced for so long.

Opened in 1845, this new purpose built hospital at 41 Rottenrow was Glasgow’s only provision for women with venereal disease. The women were kept in reformatory conditions and subjected to treatments that were more experimental than effective...
