DYE • WEAVE • PLEAT brings together makers, textile specialists, and heritage craft practitioners. The collective explores traditional Scottish textile techniques through a contemporary lens.

From natural dyeing and weaving, to pleating, kiltmaking, and textile embellishment, the project celebrated the skills, labour, and cultural knowledge. Highlighting the importance of preserving these practices for future generations.

The project continues at London Craft Week with a series of hands-on creative workshops at art’otel London Hoxton.
Workshops include:
Silk scarf painting
Creating yarns for weaving, knit & embroidery
Cords, braids & tassels
An introduction to kiltmaking

Whether you’re a textile lover, designer, maker, student, or simply curious about heritage craft, these sessions are a rare opportunity to learn directly from practitioners keeping these traditions alive.

Our finalists have transformed Shelter shop rag into show-stopping eveningwear inspired by Scottish craft and heritage.

The designers have been quietly working away in the background to create their upcycled outfits.

Each look is part of our Fashion for Social Change design challenge inspired by Scotland’s rich textile heritage and created entirely from Shelter Scotland’s rag stock.

Why rag? Because these are the textiles that can’t be sold in-store: the damaged, the overlooked, the forgotten. And instead of sending them to recycling, our designers are transforming them into eveningwear that celebrates creativity, sustainability, and Scottish craft.

In less than two weeks, you’ll be the first to see the results live at one of Glasgow’s most historic and glamorous venues.

A Night at the Trades Hall isn’t just a fashion about the competition. It’s:

A public vote by weight: every guest gets to help choose the winner
A curated Shelter Scotland pop-up: with designer pieces, true vintage, heritage fashion, and bridalwear
 on the decks
A welcome drink included

At A Night at the Trades Hall, you get to help decide this year’s winner!

Our upcycling finalists have transformed donated textiles from into show-stopping eveningwear and now it’s time for the public to have their say.

Every guest will receive a token on arrival to cast their vote for their favourite design. Each token will be added to the designer’s box, and at the end of the night, we’ll weigh the votes to reveal the winner of the Fashion for Social Change. ⚖️

A celebration of creativity, sustainability, and Scottish craft, where every vote carries real weight.

Entries for the The Incorporation of Weavers Glasgow Industry & Education Awards 2025 are still open! Celebrating excellence in woven fabric, material innovation, and colour in textiles, these prestigious awards offer a £500 prize and a Certificate of Merit for each category.

Award Categories:
* Best New Woven Fabric or Product – Judging design, technical ability & colour.
* Material Innovation Award – Open to pioneers in fibre development, UX design, digital fabrication & more!
* Colour in Textile Award (Students only) – Recognizing creative colour use in textile design, and in any medium.
