It's National Tree Week, marking the start of the annual planting season, and the CCF team joined Tree Warden volunteers in the sunshine yesterday to plant some trees in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire.

Bellshill is one of CCF's 16 target neighbourhoods which have low levels of tree cover and are vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

Thanks to everyone that came along!

Last week, Tree Wardens enjoyed a guided walk through the beautiful Dalzell Estate in Motherwell, exploring its collection of veteran and champion trees. The route took us past the Covenanters Oak - the oldest living tree in North Lanarkshire - as well as the two tallest yews in Europe. We also paused at the historic listening cave, once used to amplify the sound of the burn flowing beside it.

A huge thank you to Aileen from North Lanarkshire Council for sharing her knowledge and guiding us on this fascinating walk!

We had a great session on Friday with the team from Gallant Community Hub - Glasgow, taking a walk around Elder Park to practice winter tree identification and learn how to use the CommuniMap app to map trees in the park.

A big thanks to David Treanor for joining us and sharing his wealth of knowledge of local urban trees, including the story of his nomination of the Argyle Street Ash, which went on to win the Woodland Trust’s Tree of the Year 2025.

It was lovely to see so many familiar and new faces, and to share the afternoon with people passionate about their local green spaces. Thanks to everyone who came along, shared their knowledge, and contributed to a really informative walk

Lovely to have volunteers from Green Tangerine joining us at Coves Reservoir in Greenock on Wednesday for some tree maintenance and a nature walk with a litter pick!

Volunteers straightened guards on struggling trees and helped collect 4 bags of litter. Fantastic to see such dedicated people doing great work for their local trees and green spaces.

Keep an eye out for any upcoming Green Tangerine litter picks

A lovely video from our recent workshop with Gallant in Elder Park! We went for a tree ID walk using the Gallant communiMap app to map trees along the way. Looking forward to another session together at the end of October, watch this space! 🌳

Last week our Tree Wardens went on some lovely woodland walks in Barrhead along the Levern Walkway to Carlibar Park and also around Greenock Cemetery. We brushed up on our tree ID skills exploring some local trees and tried our hand at listening for and identifying common bird songs.

We also had a look at some recently planted trees to see how they’re getting on, and of course, every session we end with much-needed tea and biscuits!

Always lovely to see some new faces giving sessions with CCF Tree Wardens a go! More walks and sessions are on the way!
