Hate, racism and intimidation don't have any place on the streets of Scotland.

It's on all of us to stand up to build a kinder, fairer Scotland that is welcoming to all.

Our communities in Glasgow and across the United Kingdom are built on respect, resilience, and shared humanity. There is no place here for riots, racism, disorder, or violence. These actions do not represent strength or justiceโ€”they undermine trust, fracture neighbourhoods, and harm the very people and places we should be protecting.

Racism, in all its forms, is unacceptable. It diminishes us as a society and denies others the dignity and equality they deserve. We must stand firmly against prejudice and hate, choosing instead to uplift one another and celebrate the diversity that enriches our communities.

Violence and disorder solve nothing. They endanger lives, damage livelihoods, and erode the sense of safety that everyone has a right to feel. Real change and progress come through dialogue, accountability, and unityโ€”not destruction.

Each of us has a role to play. We must reject divisive behaviour, challenge injustice responsibly, and support initiatives that bring people together rather than drive them apart. Let us set an example of integrity and compassion, ensuring that our streets, workplaces, and public spaces reflect the best of who we are.

There is no place in Scotland for racism, hatred or violence of any kind.

Together, we can build a future defined not by conflict, but by cooperation, respect, and peace.

Council leader Susan Aitken said: โ€œThe attack that took place in Belfast on Monday night was truly horrific.

โ€œBut any politician or campaigner who can look at that kind of brutality and think the response should be more violence - or who can listen to the family of Henry Nowak in their grief and ignore their wishes - has something deeply rotten in their heart.

โ€œPeople are entitled to their views on immigration, but putting masked men on street corners with the intention of targeting minorities is not a protest - and nobody should allow them that veneer of respectability.

โ€œWe all know who is stirring up these tensions and we all know the kind of people, often very far from our streets, who are pulling their strings. They are not on the side of our communities.โ€
