THEN, NOW, NEXT

Last week we were at Light the Blue festival, working alongside Peter Lannon to bring together a devised piece over a matter of days. Participants of the project also had the opportunity to engage in masterclasses with Jenna Watt and Jim Manganello.

Here are a few snaps from the sharing at the end of the festival. Well done to all involved and we can't wait to share more from this project.

ONE WEEK TO GO

We are seeking a Lead Artist to join the Trajectories team.

Do you want to inspire early-career theatre-makers and help craft new, cutting-edge performance? We are seeking a Lead Artist with a strong track record of professional theatre-making and an aptitude for supporting early-career artists to develop their independent theatre-making practice.

Trajectories is a fully supported early-career artist development programme, delivered through a combination of in-person and online workshops and masterclasses plus independent development time, culminating in a showcase event of the young artists’ work.

Trajectories will take place both in Edinburgh and online, between September and November 2026. The attached fee for the role is £5,320 for 16 days of preparation, planning, delivery and evaluation, alongside 2 weeks of rehearsals and production.

THEN, NOW, NEXT – LEAD ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT

Introducing the Lead Artist for Then, Now, Next at Light the Blue, which is well and truly underway – it's Pete Lannon.

So far the young artists have been getting stuck into devising their work which will be presented as part of the festival this Sunday – we can’t wait to see it.

"As actors, as writers, as facilitators, we are all products of our environment. So, to be able to take a piece out of it's orignal environment... it's that sort of skill-sharing and perspective-sharing that I think is so brilliant."

The third and final episode of the second series of In Dialogue – the podcast for emerging artists is OUT NOW.

🎤 WE TOURED OUR WORK, AND YOU CAN TOO 🎤

On this week’s finale, we are joined by Isaac Frost and Hannah McGregor to talk about touring as early-career artists. After recently returning from the Encounters tour, they discuss what slow-touring is and why more early-career artists should consider hitting the road with their own work.

Isaac Frost is a playwright and theatre-maker based in Edinburgh. His work is concerned with bureaucracy, button-pushing, and biopolitics – as well as trans lives, hypothetical trans futures, and systems that could, frankly, be a whole lot better than they are right now. He is a founding member of trans theatre collective Speakbeast, with whom he has performed at Camden People’s Theatre, Theatre Deli, and the Edinburgh Fringe.

Hannah McGregor is a writer/theatre-maker from Glasgow, now a traitor based in Edinburgh. They like to explore identity in their work - q***rness, nationality, gender identity, politics - and the tensions at the intersection of them all. They are passionate about pushing the boundaries of q***r and trans performance, and building community through laughter, music, and all things joyful. They are inspired by magic, nature, and solidarity, and believe there’s a bit of each to be found everywhere.
