Sorry, I haven't posted in the last couple of weeks. We celebrated Pat's birthday but, sadly, he's currently in hospital so we're sending him our love & best wishes for a speedy recovery! ❤️
Then last week we celebrated Tam's birthday....many happy returns to him! 🎉🎂🎈🎊
On the menu was lentil soup, meatballs & mash then good old apple pie & custard. 😋

Yesterday we held a fantastic lunch here, in the stunning surroundings of the restored grade A listed booking offices of the Anchor Line shipping company. Many of our members sailed all around the world with the shipping line and so especially enjoyed all the amazing memorabilia, which triggered many happy memories and, of course, stories!
The food & staff were wonderful and made it such a special day, much enjoyed by all! ⚓️🧭🛟🛳

Today we mark Merchant Navy Day, when we remember and honour the men and women of the Merchant Navy around the world, past and present, who support global trade and sustain the nation.
Their courage, dedication and sacrifice have played a vital role in keeping our nation supplied and connected, often in the face of great danger.

We remember those who never returned home, and give our thanks to all who have served and continue to serve at sea

Today's lunch was just what was needed on a cold, rainy day - stick-to-your-ribs broth, home-made mince pie & mash and old-school trifle! 😋

A wee reminder that next Wednesday is our members' special summer lunch (pretending it is still summer! 🌞) This is to be held in The Anchor Line, St Vincent Place at 1pm.
Anchor Line has special meaning to many of our members, having sailed with them around the world over many years, and they are looking forward to our visit....for a lovely lunch & especially to take in all the memorabilia on display.

A double post today:

Last Wednesday was Erin & Megan's last day helping out, as they're now back to school! They did a great job....setting up, chopping, stirring & serving, making the dessert & also posters to advertise our upcoming lunch at The Anchor Line! 👏🌟🎨🌟👏
On the menu was lentil soup (you can truly stand a ladle in Yvonne's soup!!), chicken wrapped in bacon & peach Eton mess! 🥣🍗🍑

We certainly missed the girls today!
A dreich & drizzly day called for a big bowl of warming carrot & coriander soup & you can't beat pie, beans & chips followed by trifle. 🥕🥧🍨😋

Join us any, or every, Wednesday at 12.30pm....there's always a warm welcome no matter the weather!

Another few pics!

We had a lovely surprise during our sail on The Waverley on Monday. An announcement was made over the tannoy, directing members of SNWS to the starboard side to look over to Bowling Harbour!
There we saw Iain Lindsey on the shore. He & his son Matthew had thoughfully made & set up a banner, along with hoisted flags, in recognition of our sail "doon the watter"
With 2 blasts of the horn, & much waving, we sailed past. 👋📣👋 📣

What a day we had for our summer outing on Monday....a full day trip on The magnificent Waverley, the last seagoing passenger-carrying paddle steamer in the world. 🚢⚓️🧭

We left Glasgow at 09.30 & returned at 20.40 - with the option to go ashore at Brodick, Arran for a few hours or to continue to steam round Ailsa Craig & the Holy Isle. Topped off with fish & chips onboard as we slowly made our way back home as the sun began to set. 🌅
Her horn blew but the waters were calm & the sun shone....a glorious day was had by all! 📣🌞☺️

Sorry, I've managed to miss a few people from my pics so please send any you have so I can post them here too!🤞Thanks to Christine who has already done so! 🫶
