Whitehill Pool - A first step in the right direction!

Glasgow Life has now published their long-awaited report on options for Whitehill Pool.
It's only the beginning and further work is planned to, as they say, "provide a clear route to the review of vital aquatics and community services for Dennistoun and wider Northeast."

While earlier drafts have shied back from backing the re-instatement of the pool, this final version now clearly acknowledges the value of the pool and its dry sports side for the local community and the whole of Glasgow, and begins to make a case for funding.

Rebuilding or refurbishment of the pool are the main positive proposals going forward, provided the council allocates money in the capital programme for 2028/29. This is likely to be decided in 2027! We need to keep up the level of campaigning. This is quite soon!

Thanks to the work of our councillors, the community council, Living Rent (Dennistoun), Save Whitehill Pool Campaign and Glasgow Life this better and final draft could now be achieved.

Here is the Conclusion of the report:

"Whitehill Pool is a high-value community asset with critical safety failures that preclude incremental repair. Securing and mothballing of the facility will be necessary while work towards a permanent solution is ongoing, including further investigations, cost benefit analysis, and cost certainty. At the same time a funding/phasing strategy will be developed to enable investment on the ground to progress as soon as possible. This will provide a clear route to the review of vital aquatics and community services for the Dennistoun and wider Northeast. The final decision on the future of the asset will be made by council."

As the next step more evidence will be collected to develop a "Strategic Business Case". This will then go to the Council to make the final decision. The Save Whitehill Pool Campaign Group and with it the whole community will need to be part of this process.

Looking back on a really productive public meeting last week 👇

We shared a full update on everything the Campaign Group has been working on over the past year (with plenty of visuals and stats to back it up), and started mapping out what comes next — including building the business case and looking at possible funding options.

One of the most important parts of the night was hearing directly from the community about how much the loss of the pool has affected them. Those voices matter and will continue to shape what we do next.

We also had support in the room from elected members — Ivan, Paul, Allan, Elaine and Anthony — who all reiterated their backing for bringing Whitehill Pool back and recognised the effort that’s gone into the campaign so far.

Now the focus is clear: keep the momentum going, stay visible, and refresh the campaign so we’re in the strongest position possible heading towards the 2028/29 budget.

We’re not slowing down. 🏊‍♂️
