On 2nd June, I was pleased to attend the Glasgow Partners Conference, Building Resilience: Communities, Cohesion and Shared Responsibility.
The conference featured valuable contributions from a range of inspiring speakers, including Councillor Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council; Professor Mona Siddiqui, whose keynote address, "Fractures and Futures: Navigating the Challenges of Social Cohesion", provided thought-provoking insights; Lucien Staddon Foster from the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights (CRER) on "Tackling Online Hate and Extremism"; Superintendent Nigel Thacker of Police Scotland on "Policing Protests and Community Safety"; Professor Naomi Head from the Centre for Good Relations on "Building Pathways to Good Relations in Divided Communities"; and Cormac Quinn, Policy Manager at Glasgow City Council's Chief Executive's Office, who provided an important Community Cohesion Update.
The event concluded with a roundtable Q&A session, offering participants the opportunity to explore a variety of concerns, ideas, and recommendations that were addressed to the Hate Crime Working Group.
It was an inspiring and informative day, filled with rich discussions on social cohesion, community safety, resilience, and our shared responsibility in building stronger and more inclusive communities.
A massive thank you to all the speakers and to the facilitators, Andy Sirel from JustRight Scotland and Shaheen Baber, for the invitation and for delivering such a productive event.
I was delighted to represent Najwa New Scots Carers Centre (SCIO) and to contribute to these important conversations that help shape stronger, safer, and more connected communities.
