The days go by so fast! Well... that’s what happens when you’re busy running from one fantastic story to another.

What a wonderful third day we had yesterday! We enjoyed shows covering a wide range of storytelling styles and forms, from traditional folklore and autobiographical tales to contemporary stories. Everything was so good that it left us wanting more!

But there’s still one more day of the festival to enjoy! Come along, catch a story, and finish the festival with some ceilidh dancing later today. :)

See you soon!

What a fantastic day yesterday at the Village Storytelling Festival!

Kicking off the day with our symposium, we witnessed some brilliant, thoughtful discussions about how storytelling can bring about change.

We also enjoyed beautiful performances from Geoffrey van der Ven with What's the Difference and Corrine Harragin with Troubled Waters, rounding off the evening with another beautiful Sangs an' Clatter in the Bar.

But... we're not done yet!

We have a full programme today and we can't wait to welcome you along!

Big shout out for all of our adults community groups that gathered together to open the festival with their performance-exhibition. There wasn’t a dry eye left in the audience.

Water and the creatures that live within it have been a source of imagination for as long as humans have existed. The Village Storytelling Festival proudly presents two shows that take inspiration from watery depths.

Join Corinne Harragin as she explores our connection to waterways, wetlands and their inhabitants in Troubled Waters on Thursday. Expect leaping salmon, fishtail women, mythical raves and sacred springs – these freshly told legends celebrate all those who question the fixed and find their own flow.

And on Friday 5th , Ruth Kirkpatrick and Colin Urwin bring us The People of the Sea. Inspired by David Thompson’s 1954 book of seal and selkie stories from Ireland and Scotland, this show blends the finest storytelling and song, good natured banter and a splash of salty humour.

As daylight begins to fade the Village Storytelling Festival will continue to deliver, showcasing the voices, traditions and creativity that make for a diverse and exciting storytelling scene in Glasgow.

We invite you to journey from the legends of Chiloé and the far reaches of South America to the rich folklore of the Gàidhealtachd, at our Sangs an’ Clatter events on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Experience the playful collision of tradition and innovation at Harp & Carp x Wildcard
Stories on Friday, then round off the festival in style this Saturday at the first-ever Village Storytelling Festival Ceilidh! - a joyous celebration of music, dance, stories and community.

In collaboration with (Amsterdam) we are delighted to welcome two shows premiering in Scotland.

What’s the Difference? Somewhere inside the swan, there is still an ugly duckling and somewhere inside the Instagram gay, there is still a kid that was bullied. Nigerian/Dutch performer Geoffrey van der Ven combines storytelling, personal narratives, and mythology to create an evening of connection, recognition, and discomfort as he explores what it means to feel shame and to be othered.

Until Death…is a deeply personal and beautiful story of love and saying goodbye. In 2019, Arjen Barel’s husband was diagnosed with cancer. Arjen shares with complete
honesty and vulnerability, what it is like to live with someone you have to say goodbye to and how you carry on living afterwards.
