3 things we’ve learned this week:

1️⃣ Scotland’s NHS and care services depend on migrant workers. They deserve security, dignity and a future.

2️⃣ More than 9 in 10 council workers are struggling with the cost of living. COSLA must keep the promise and deliver £15 an hour.

3️⃣ Lawrence Shankland should start for Scotland. Obviously.

More than nine in ten council workers in Scotland say they are struggling with the cost of living.

UNISON Scotland surveyed more than 6,000 local government workers. The findings are stark:

94% are finding it difficult to keep up with rising household costs
39% are paid less than £15 an hour
30% earn less than £20,000 a year
12% have taken on a second job

Council staff keep vital services running every day. They deserve fair pay.

COSLA committed two years ago to working towards a minimum rate of £15 an hour. Workers cannot wait any longer.

Yesterday, UNISON members from across Scotland came together at the Scottish Parliament to demand a fair visa system for migrant workers.

Scotland's NHS and care services depend on migrant workers.

They deserve a visa system that offers security, dignity and a future.

We're calling for: ✅ A common Certificate of Sponsorship system
✅ Indefinite Leave to Remain after 5 years
✅ Fair pay for care workers

We're pleased that 23 MSPs have signed UNISON's Fair Visa pledge. Now it's time for the UK Government to listen and act.

School support staff across Scotland are facing rising levels of violence at work, with many suffering injuries while supporting children and young people.

UNISON's Edinburgh campaign, led by Katrina Baird, is shining a light on an issue affecting staff.

Violence at work is not part of the job.

Scotland's public services would struggle without migrant workers.

Yet too many face visa costs, insecurity and barriers that no worker should have to face.

Pride Month is a celebration. It is also a reminder.

The rights LGBT+ people have today were fought for. They were not handed over willingly. There is still a long way to go for real equality, safety and dignity for everyone.

UNISON Scotland stands with LGBT+ workers and communities across Scotland. Not just during Pride Month, but every day of the year.

🏳️‍🌈 Happy Pride Month.

Got a Pride event, fundraiser, march, workplace initiative or community gathering coming up? Drop it in the comments or message us so we can help promote it.

Today, General Secretary Andrea Egan visited the Falkirk Branch office, meeting with branch officers from Falkirk, Forth Valley and Stirling.

Discussions focused on the support needed for branches and officers dealing with far-right activity and intimidation in recent weeks. Branch offices and union officers in Falkirk and across Forth Valley have been targeted for standing up for workers, communities and anti-racism values.

The visit was an important show of solidarity with local activists and staff, and a reminder that intimidation will not stop UNISON members from organising and speaking up for their communities. Discussions were also held with Stirling Local Government branch officers regarding forthcoming industrial action ballots.

Solidarity with all our branches, officers and members facing this abuse. ✊
