UNISON has lodged a dispute with COSLA over their failure to pay council workers a minimum of £15 per hour.

Despite an agreement going back to early 2024 COSLA have failed to meet the April 2026 deadline.

This pledge was as a result of UNISON members striking for better pay in 2023.

Introducing a minimum rate of £15 across local government is the right think to do, it will increase pay for the lowest paid and push wages up across councils improving recruitment and retention

UNISON  will not forget about this pledge even though COSLA might want to.

All council staff deserve fair pay and a minimum rate of £15 per hour.

Scottish Secretary Lilian Macer and Convenor Mark Ferguson visited Orkney to meet local UNISON members alongside Angela Constance MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care.

Members spoke about the pressures facing vital services and the staff who deliver them. They also raised the UNISON Orkney Health Branch campaign for fair Distant Islands Allowance payments.

The allowance recognises the additional costs faced by people working on Scotland’s islands. UNISON is calling for health staff to receive parity with local government colleagues who live and work in the same community.

🔥 SUPPORT THE STRIKE 🔥

Ward Clerks across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board are taking strike action for the first time on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th August. ✊

Ward Clerks provide essential administrative support on hospital wards. They have taken on additional responsibilities, yet NHS GGC have not evaluated their job to make sure they are paid fairly for the important work they do.

Join your local picket line, 5th and 6th August 8-10am:

- Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Royal Hospital for Children
- Glasgow Royal Infirmary
- Royal Alexandria Hospital
- Inverclyde Royal Hospital

JOIN THE RALLY OUTSIDE BOARD HEADQUARTERS:
Wednesday 5th August, 11:30am, JB RUSSELL HOUSE, Gartnavel Royal Hospital.

Share widely, let’s show these vital NHS workers how supported they are! 👏
