activists have occupied the Department of Sport, Communications and Culture in a peaceful protest against the decision to play genocidal Israel in the upcoming Nations League.

This is part of a continuing protest which will intensify until these two shameful fixtures have been stopped.

The Government has placed pressure on the FAI, who are also culpable, to fulfil these fixtures. Taoiseach Miaceal Martin was one of the first to demand that the FAI play these games. Ireland is a part of the International Criminal Court and as such should not be engaging in sportswashing . We are failing in our moral, humanitarian and legal obligations as a country in playing these games.

grassroots activists will continue to demand these games are stopped and further details will be advised at an already called media event tomorrow, 30 July 2026, at 11AM in the Whistleblower Cafe, South Anne Street, Dublin 2.

For interview about this protest contact Cllr. Cieran Perry on 087 939 3331.

People Before Profit Cllr Shaun Harkin:

"What happened in the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium was a disgrace.

Solidarity to all the Derry City FC supporters who were forced to endure this dangerous and fearful situation.

Well done to the stewards and Derry City supporters for showing so much restraint.

The PSNI have questions to answer.

It's well-established that a section of CSKA Sofia support are fascists.

They are well-known for their N**i chants and salutes, racism, violence and disruption of games.

They are not football fans, they are thugs. Alan Pardew parted ways as manager because of the racism and violence.

Unfortunately this is normalised and tolerated by their club hierarchy and by UEFA bosses.

These thugs didn’t come to Derry for football. They came to provoke the outcome that unfolded. They intentionally ruined an amazing occasion.

This can never be allowed to happen again.

Fascism, racism and thug violence must be rooted out of the people's game."
