Happy ๐ŸŒŸ 100th ๐ŸŒŸ Out to Play arts-based outdoor learning residency to us! To celebrate this milestone, weโ€™ve taken a moment to look back at some of the fantastic numbers the project has clocked up since 2015 ๐ŸŽญ๐ŸŒฑ

In 2014, as part of her research into childhood & the environment, Eco Dramaโ€™s artistic director Emily considered how drama & storytelling might support children to connect with nature, in all-concrete school playgrounds. Stories teach us how to notice & appreciate nature where we are, and by shifting from the reality of โ€œWhat Isโ€ to the creativity of โ€œWhat If,โ€ children can imagine forests or act as animals without needing green space or special gear - Out to Play was born!

Over the past decade, the project has embraced & developed a distinct focus within the UKโ€™s outdoor learning landscape, by centring its approach on drama & storytelling. These creative tools engage learners emotionally, fostering a deep, memorable connection to their outdoor learning & play that leaves a lasting impact.

A big thank you to the schools, nurseries & drama artists whoโ€™ve shared our Out to Play journey with us โ€“ hereโ€™s to arts-based outdoor learning, today and every day ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’š

A very special thank you to children & staff at Glenboig PS (N Lan), who participated in our ๐ŸŽ‰ 100th ๐ŸŽ‰ Out to Play residency! Project sessions explored themes of biodiversity, sustainability & global citizenship through drama, storytelling & creativity, in the school's wonderful outdoor space ๐Ÿž๐ŸŽญ๐ŸŒฑ

And would you look at the beautiful thank you cards made by pupils for Drama Artist Izzi Joss, who led the schoolโ€™s residency sessions โ€“ thank you so much! We loved working with you & wish you many more Outdoor Learning adventures ๐Ÿ˜Š

โ€˜Thank you for teaching us useful skills through drama! You have taught us so much about our planet and how to take care of it! Thank you for always showing up (even when the weatherโ€™s horrible). We wonโ€™t forget you!โ€™ โ€“ Glenboig PS P6/5 pupils

โ€˜We will incorporate lots of elements into all areas of learning but particularly within IDL topics. It was very useful to see how sustainability can be taught through drama, incorporating the outdoors. It was also great to see all the areas of the playground used in different ways providing future inspiration.โ€™ โ€“ Glenboig PS P4/3 teacher
