Congratulations to the team from our Explorer Sea Scout section who took part in the 2026 Challenge Hike at Lochgoilhead Scout Centre last weekend, winning the Explorer scout category. All participants coped extremely well with some terrible weather conditions.

A big thank-you to all the volunteers who arranged and ran the event.

Dear all,

It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that Cub leader, Lesley Gillespie died yesterday.

Lesley first joined the 29th Glasgow Scout Group in 1974 as a Section Assistant, helping with the Cubs. She remained involved in Scouts when she moved to Jersey in 1980 and then had roles in Ayrshire when she came back to Scotland. Lesley came back to the 29th in 2003 and for most of the time until 2023 she was “Akela” of the Tuesday Cub pack. Over the years Lesley made an immense contribution to the Group. In addition to her Cub role, Lesley was also heavily involved with the running of the Group’s fundraising activities and sat as a Trustee on the board.

Her success was down to many factors; her innovative programme of activities, her talent for engaging people, her directness in getting things done but, most of all, her sheer enthusiasm for scouting and her care for the hundreds of young people who have been in her pack. Lesley will be sadly missed, and our thoughts and sympathy are with her family and friends at this sad time.

Kind regards,
John
Group Scout Leader
