What a weekend at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews Links ⛳️

We joined our partners at Movement for Health in the Wellness Tent, helping people learn more about diabetes and the importance of living and moving well through a range of fun activities.

Visitors could:

🔵 Take on our hula hoop challenge
🔵 Stigma by hitting our exploding blue golf balls
🔵 Paint their thumbs blue for diabetes awareness

It was brilliant to see so many people stop by, get involved and share their experiences. And our UK Ambassador, Sir Steve Redgrave, even stopped by the tent too!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and to Movement for Health for having us.

Meet Gordon, who's setting off to climb Mount Kilimanjaro on Saturday 👏

He has been living with type 1 diabetes for 27 years:

"Every meal, every snack, every activity requires careful consideration and calculation of carbohydrate intake and insulin dosage. This constant monitoring and management can be exhausting, both physically and mentally.

"The reason I want to climb to the top of Kilimanjaro is to show others living with diabetes what can be done, and to try and inspire some people. I'm doing it for myself as well to be able to achieve the feat of being able to get to the top of the mountain."

Do you want to make an impact on the future of diabetes in Scotland? 💙

The Scottish Diabetes Advisory Council (SDAC) is looking for new members to help ensure the voices of people affected by diabetes remain at the centre of our work, and that everything we do is relevant and evidence-based.

The Council is open to all people living with any form of diabetes, their carers, parents and family members, as well as individuals from communities and backgrounds disproportionately affected by diabetes.

We also welcome healthcare, research, public health and policy professionals to bring their expertise, alongside lived experience.

Together, SDAC members will help provide insight, advice and diverse points-of-view to Diabetes Scotland.

🎉 A huge thank you to everyone at Agricultural Show for their incredible support.

Led by Emma Cuthbertson, the show has raised an outstanding £10,000 to help support people living with diabetes and fund life-changing research.

This remarkable total was made possible through a series of community fundraising events, including the annual Charity Christmas Tractor Run, donations given in memory of the respected and much-loved Jim Clark, and Andy Baillie's Sponsor Day.

This monumental achievement reflects the generosity and dedication of an amazing community. We know diabetes touches the lives of so many families, and support like this helps us continue working towards a world where diabetes can do no harm.

“Just me, the road and a significant number of snacks.” 🍎

Meet Chris. He recently took on the infamous John O'Groats to Lands End challenge, cycling the entire length of the UK. And here, he explains why…

“The achievement is definitely part of the appeal - but there’s also a very personal reason, and it all started five years ago…

“Five days before the birth of our son, Lewis, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. What should have been one of the happiest, most exciting times in my life suddenly came with a whole new set of day-to-day challenges.”

Since then, Chris has balanced the daily demands of diabetes – managing food, exercise and insulin – while also adjusting to life with a newborn.

But, rather than let his diagnosis define him, Chris is determined to prove what's possible.

“This journey is my way of showing that type 1 diabetes doesn’t stop you taking on big challenges – while also raising money to support others living with it every single day.”

Chris has raised over £3,000! He’s gone more than the extra mile (covering 1,118 of them) to help us move closer to a world where diabetes does no harm. We’re incredibly grateful 💙
