We had a great day at Lochwinnoch, bringing together a group of men for an outdoor workshop focused on Challenging Violence Against Women (CVAW).

The session created a valuable space for open conversations, learning, and reflection, while also enjoying time together in nature. It was a positive opportunity to connect, build understanding, and strengthen community ties.

At CIS, we are committed to exploring different ways to engage with men from minority communities, encouraging meaningful discussions and promoting respect, safety, and equality.

This is part of our ongoing promise to support a safe and supportive community for women and girls.

Our CIS team had a really valuable training session with SOHTIS on Human Trafficking Awareness.
We learned more about the risks, how to spot the signs, how the NRM works, and our role when working with vulnerable people.
A big thank you to SOHTIS for their support and for delivering such an important and useful session.
Training like this is essential and something organisations working with vulnerable communities need regularly.

Community InfoSource’s CVAW, the GVAWG Partnership, and Women’s Support Project co-hosted the FGM Aware network event at the City Chambers, marking the International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM.
The event was attended by various groups and charities working to tackle FGM and violence against women. The Minister for Equalities also joined us on the day.
Workshops were delivered by facilitators from the British Red Cross, Just Right Scotland, the NHS Blossom Project, and Community InfoSource.
CVAW also delivered one of the workshops, focusing on working with men.

Cultural Awareness Sessions in Aberdeen

The outreach delivery team has successfully completed the second round of cultural awareness sessions in Aberdeen with a great turnout and strong participation.
Over two days, on 12 and 13 November, our team visited two accommodation centres for asylum seekers, engaging with around 90 men in total.
The sessions, as designed, focused on understanding cultural differences and aimed to support participants in their integration journey by improving awareness of local customs, values, and social norms.
It was another successful step in our ongoing efforts to build understanding and connection within communities across Scotland.

Sixty voices. Two days. One shared goal: building safer, stronger communities across Scotland.

As part of our ongoing nationwide work to tackle violence against women and raise cultural awareness, Community InfoSource delivered two days of workshops in Aberdeen, engaging with 60 people living in Home Office accommodation.
Through open and honest discussions, participants explored cultural differences, shared personal experiences, and reflected on how men can play a positive role in promoting gender equality.
This important activity was conducted by four members of the Community InfoSource outreach team, continuing our commitment to take awareness-raising and integration work to communities across Scotland.

As part of our ongoing work to support minority communities in Scotland, CIS always puts communities at the heart of what we do. Building strong connections with services that support and protect these communities is an important part of that mission.

This week, our outreach delivery team had a productive meeting with Police Scotland, including the Safer Communities and Community Relations teams. Together, we shared ideas on how to cooperate and tackle the issues faced by minority communities.

A big thank you to both teams for giving their time and effort to build valuable connections. Working together makes us stronger in supporting communities across Scotland.

We've now completed our seven-week Connect Outdoors educational hiking programme, finishing with the 1,103m Munro, Beinn Ghlas, overlooking Loch Tay, and a 10km woodland trek around Chatelherault Country Park. Community, connection, camaraderie; so many great achievements, so many proud moments!

Our group enjoyed some truly memorable days out in the great outdoors and learned how to access the hills independently, safely and with greater confidence. Huge thanks as ever to Tiso, Mhor Outdoor, the John Muir Trust, and our amazing programme leader, Kat Jackson.

To quote one of the team: "We hiked, climbed, learned so much, and achieved goals by reaching challenging places, but all of this was made possible thanks to our teamwork and support for one another… I won’t forget the friends I met after joining the group. We became a team, friends, and a family."
