Hi Everyone,

The next group meeting is on Wednesday 3rd September in the Mercure Glasgow City Hotel, Banker Room on the 6th Floor at 7pm.

Guest Speaker this month is Mark Sharratt, who most of you know as a group member.

Mark's description of the session follows:

Topic: The Gut-Brain Connection in PD

In this month's Group meeting we will take a look at the latest research connecting the gut and the brain in Parkinson's disease and discover how, for many of us, the disease may actually start in the gut.

We will explore the implications for treatment and will discuss the exciting opportunities this presents for finding a way to slow the progression of our condition down ... and even to potentially stop it's progress.

The session will cover:
How the gut is emerging as one of the most promising areas of research for finding a Cure for Parkinson's disease
The role of inflammation in with the brain in PD
How the gut has the potential to reduce both inflammation and PD symptoms in the brain
What we can do from a diet and lifestyle perspective to improve gut health, reduce inflammation, and slow the progression of our disease

About me:
For those I've not met, I was diagnosed with PD 3.5 years ago. I'm currently working part-time and devote a lot of my spare time to PD research and finding dietary and lifestyle interventions to slow down disease progression.

So far, I have been relatively successful at achieving this aim and typically only take 100mg of levodopa once a day to help me exercise.

Here is my professional bio online, which gives a little more background on me:
