Very pleased to announce the date for this year's open day and flower show.
In just under 3 weeks, on 15 August, we'll be opening the doors again to our verdant sanctuary.
As always we'll be serving teas and cakes in the hall while in the centre green we'll have activities like face painting and a mocktail stall.
The main event is of course the plants and flowers themselves, all of which we have been growing here at the allotments and many of which will be on sale along with a range of homemade produce.
Always a nice day out for all ages so bring your pals, bring your family and hopefully see you on August 15th.
Please note; the entrance on Glenapp St is not wheelchair accessible but the back gate on Maxwell Road, at pavement level, will be open on the day.

This one goes out to all those folks who say plants don't have feelings πŸ˜‚
Well, these cucumber plants must feel something otherwise they wouldn't be tentatively reaching out to find things to hold onto in order to stabilise themselves as they grow upwards. If they have sensitivity to touch, what else can they feel? πŸ€”πŸ˜‰

Today's haul from one of our plotholders showing that it's not just seasonal/indigenous plants we can grow at New Victoria Gardens. With a greenhouse everything is possible. As well as beetroot, Cavolo Nero, courgettes, green beans, perennial kale and radishes grown outside, things like these tomatoes, padron peppers and figs benefit greatly from the warmth and shelter of a greenhouse!
You can see for yourself what our plotholders have been growing at our annual open day and flower show which is happening on 15th August. We will be sharing a poster for the event shortly.

It's that time of year again!!
One of the southside's most enjoyable and well-attended events is happening today: Bungo In The Back Lanes!! And, as always we have a little stall down at the southern end of Lane 3 at the back of Marywood Square.
Scores of trays of plants were dropped off last night: hundreds of flowers and vegetables, as you would expect.
This time also a dozen beautiful bunches of flowers were made up (regretting not having photographed these, to be honest, as they were quite stunning).
In any case the lanes will be opening shortly and the weather looks fine so come on down.
There are children's activities, live music, a bar, street food stalls, brick-a-brac sales and so much more.
Come say hi
