Dementia Awareness Session at Wing Hong Centre
In April, Wing Hong Centre hosted a Dementia Community Information Session delivered by Julie, Dementia Trainer from Age Scotland, bringing together members of our community to learn, ask questions, and share experiences in a welcoming and supportive environment.
We were delighted to see such a positive turnout and active participation from community members, with many people taking part in discussions and sharing their own experiences.
The session explored:
✨ Understanding dementia and recognising early signs
✨ Support available for family members and carers
✨ Ways to access information and community resources
✨ Creating conversations around dementia within families and communities
For many people in the Chinese community, dementia can still be a difficult topic to talk about due to stigma, language barriers, or a lack of accessible information. Through culturally sensitive and bilingual support, we hope to make these conversations easier and ensure people feel informed and supported.
This session forms part of our wider series of dementia-focused activities at Wing Hong Centre, aiming to raise awareness, provide support, reduce isolation, and strengthen connections within the Chinese community.
A special thank you to and their Encouraging and Supporting Grassroots Activities Fund, which has made it possible for us to run this pilot project and provide meaningful support for our community. ❤️
Thank you as well to Julie for sharing knowledge and helping us create a safe and supportive space for discussion.
We are also looking to grow this project and welcome volunteers who would like to support our community. If you are interested in getting involved and learning more, please contact us at [email protected]
We look forward to continuing this work and supporting our community together.
