๐Ÿ’ป Keeping Children Safe Online ๐Ÿ“ฑ

In an increasingly digital world where children and teens are often exposed to online content before their parents are even aware of it, the Cyber and Fraud Hub has produced a guide for parents, carers and guardians called "Keeping Children Safe Online", to help families stay one step ahead.

The guide has been designed to give parents and carers a clearer understanding of social media, gaming platforms and communication methods that children use every day, often without adult oversight.

From popular apps and games, to messaging platforms, the guide offers practical advice, explanations of commonly used terminology and step-by-step tips on setting up parental controls.

Most importantly it encourages open and informed conversations between adults and young people, about the digital spaces they are in.

The Keeping Children Safe Online guide covers:
โ€ข How video games such as Minecraft and Roblox work and the way to change video settings.
โ€ข Different social media platforms including Snapchat and TikTok and safety features.
โ€ข Router parental control advice.
โ€ข Privacy add-ons and settings in browsers and mobile phones.

Best Start Grant School Age Payment is paid automatically to those who already receive Scottish Child Payment.

But some people still need to apply.

Applications are now open to those who:

โœ… donโ€™t qualify for Scottish Child Payment but get Housing Benefit.

โœ… have opted out of automatic Best Start Grant payments

โœ… are under 19 and dependent on someone else who gets benefits for you

If you're currently receiving Scottish Child Payment you will receive a text when we're checking eligibility and we will send a letter to let you know if you will get the payment automatically.

As part of Child Safety Week, weโ€™re highlighting how small, everyday actions can help keep children safe ๐Ÿ’›

Simple steps can make a big difference:

โœ” Keeping small objects out of reach of young children
โœ” Checking home safety (like stair gates, window locks, and smoke alarms)
โœ” Supervising children around water at all times
โœ” Teaching road safety from an early age
โœ” Storing medicines and cleaning products safely

๐Ÿ‘‡ Take a look at the posters and scan the QR code for more helpful advice.

Every small action adds up โ€” together we can help prevent accidents and keep children safe.

This week marks Child Safety Week, with this yearโ€™s theme: โ€œMaking Prevention Possible.โ€ ๐Ÿ’›

Keeping children safe is something we all share responsibility for โ€” whether at home, in the community, or in the spaces where children learn and grow.

By raising awareness and sharing simple advice, we can help prevent accidents before they happen and create safer environments for every child.

๐Ÿ‘‡ Take a moment to look at the poster and scan the QR code for practical tips and support.

Together, we can make prevention possible.
