My (Ainsley) absolute favourite thing about working on The Mark Scott Award is bringing people together.

Groups meet on Monday. Often they only know one other person in their team. By Friday, they’re in matching T-shirts taking on massive challenges.

Friendships develop through the residential and continue to build through the community project. Connections that sometimes go on to last for decades. It’s a privilege be a tiny part of.

We provide the opportunity and activities. But our groups bring the openness, willingness, and kindness that lets them connect in a really genuine way.

We’ve had another brilliant week at Loch Eil, and it’s hard to believe they only just met on Monday.

When the group loves a group shot!

Group 5/13 completed their Loch Eil adventure a few weeks ago. Since then, they’ve already made some good progress on their community projects - how’s that for a quick turn around!?

Hard work, big adventure & community vibes go a long way towards brings us together. Can’t wait to see how your projects make positive waves in your communities team!

Connection, community, and confidence.

The Mark Scott Award provides development opportunities for S6 students across central Scotland.

Through adventure and community action, young people make new friends, take on leadership opportunities, and make real difference in their communities.

It’s nearly time for our residential adventures to start!
What do you need to pack?

⛰️Bring 5 days worth of clothes to be outdoors and active in. Longer socks make hiking boots more comfortable.

🌊 Bring one full set of lightweight clothes to wear in the water (shorts, T-shirt & a pair of old trainers). We’ll be in the water a few times throughout the week, but we have a drying room so one set is enough.

🥶Don’t forget a warm layer for our camping trip
🐞☀️🕶️ Bugspray, suncream and sunglasses are a good call too!

😴 Pajamas, a towel and toiletries for in the dorm.
🔌 A charger to keep your phone topped up for photos

💊Finally, don’t forget to pack any important medication!

Meet the The Mark Scott Award team!

As a wee team, we don’t actually get the chance to work together much. So ahead of our groups starting for the term, we had a fun day scrambling in the mountains!

Adventure, team work, honest communication, and stepping a wee bit out of our comfort zone were all skills required for the day - practicing the same skills we will ask of our participants on their residential in just a few weeks!

Disconnect to reconnect 📵

Feedback from many participants over the years shows that an Outward Bound residential gives them the chance to be more present.

With our Mark Scott Award groups, students can keep their phones with them. But many later reflect that they enjoyed the chance to cut down their screen time, and focus on connecting with the people around them.
