Playlist for Life

Playlist for Life Playlist for Life is a UK music and dementia charity.

Raising awareness of using personal music to help manage and improve dementia symptoms, and also to support carers and loved ones of people living with dementia πŸ’š They harness the powerful effects of personal music to help anyone who is affected by dementia, their families and carers. Whether it’s the music from a first dance, lullabies from childhood or a theme tune from a favourite TV show, musi

c has the ability to take us back in time and remind us of our past, giving you that flashback feeling. Sharing your songs and memories can help people living with dementia connect with family, friends and carers. Over two decades of scientific research has shown that listening to a personalised playlist can improve the lives of those living with dementia. In fact, listening to music that is personally meaningful has many psychological benefits, meaning anyone can benefit from a playlist. Personalised playlists can:

- reduce anxiety

- improve your mood

- make difficult tasks more manageable

- evoke memories that can help families and carers connect.

We shared music, memories and helped people get started on creating the soundtrack of their lives.

Our session follows on from a dementia awareness session at the centre by

Meet Mary Hunter. Mary was the life and soul of the dancefloor in her clubbing days πŸ’ƒ.

Today, she lives with dementia β€” and when she moved into a nursing home, her favourite tunes moved with her, helping her to connect and keep dancing.

We visited Mary and her husband, Colin, to hear more about how meaningful music has helped Mary live well with dementia, and to speak with the health and social care professionals who support her.

πŸ’š Mary said: "It just makes me feel good."

Learn more about Mary's journey in the video below ⬇️

With thanks to Isa Rao, Bandrum Nursing Home , and the Older Adult Community Mental Health Team at NHS Fife for helping to create this video.

A huge thank you to our amazing supporter Chloe, who ran the Manchester Marathon last month and raised an incredible Β£1,800 for Playlist for Life! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸŽΆ

We’re so grateful for her dedication and generosity in helping to improve the lives of people living with dementia through the power of personal playlists.

Personal playlists can help reduce distressing symptoms of dementia and, in some cases, lessen the need for medication. That's why we want everyone living with dementia to have access to a personal playlist as part of their care plan.

Inspired by Chloe?
