Haste ye back, Swifts!

In August, most Swifts will leave Scotland and head back to Equatorial and Southern Africa.

So, if you catch sight of one or hear their familiar screeching call be sure to say farewell.

Their flight back to Africa is one of the longest migratory journeys in the world, involving a non-stop flight of 8000 miles!

An update on this weekends event in Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum!

*EDIT - we have been watching the forecast all week and it’s been predicted to rain on Saturday and Sunday so we will be moving this into the museum to make seed creatures! The activity will run 1pm - 3:30pm*

Join us at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum this weekend (8th and 9th of August) to explore the wonderful wildflower meadows! We will be exploring the plant species and the invertebrates that use them and will be discussing how important meadows are for nature and wildlife!

Growing wildlife-friendly flowers is a great way nature a boost, creating a biodiversity haven for local wildlife. These spaces provide food, shelter and highways for all wildlife from field voles, to goldfinches, butterflies, bumblebees, grasshoppers and so much more!

We will be situated at the meadow outside the Museum next to the car park 1pm-4pm.

This activity is weather dependent.

*FIRE UPDATE*

Over the last week there has been a tireless effort to tackle the ongoing wildfire in the Cairngorms National Park. While encouraging progress had been made thanks to the immense support, unfortunately the fire threat has once again been growing at RSPB Abernethy since yesterday afternoon following a change in weather conditions.

The situation is serious and staff, volunteers and partners are at this time focused on doing all they can to support the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service who are coordinating the response.

Please continue to adhere to guidance from the SFRS and Police Scotland. We are hugely grateful to the community of people and organisations who continue to offer incredible support.
