Introduing our Young Artists for 2026!

This year we’re delighted to welcome four talented performers, who will join Scottish Ensemble as our resident Young Artists.

Catrin Borggrim – Violin
Celia Griffiths – Violin
Aiden Macdonald – Viola
Ellamay Mantie – Cello

The four were selected following our side-by-side residency week at RCS in January. Now, they will embark on a year-long programme of paid opportunities and development experiences with the team here at Scottish Ensemble; from diving headfirst into the world of professional performance in our touring concerts to office days with the management team to gain insights into programming, fundraising, marketing and governance.

You can look forward to seeing and hearing more from them as the year goes on.

Scottish Ensemble & Brìghde Chaimbeul
A new cross-genre collaboration, touring this year
Scottish Ensemble joins forces with world-renowned Celtic musician Brìghde Chaimbeul for a spellbinding new collaboration, which will premiere at the Edinburgh International Festival before touring.

Encounter an unforgettable cross-genre performance, where the familiar sounds of a string orchestra are pulled in unfamiliar directions, creating a sound world shaped by the distinctive power of the Scottish smallpipes.

The folklore and history of Skye comes to the fore; from traditional Gaelic waulking songs and the eerie tale of the Spòg Liath (“The grey paw”) to the phases of the moon and the landscape of Scotland’s islands.

Impulse: Music in Motion 🎻

Last month we brought Impulse to the and performed Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich from memory, moving through the space with choreographer Örjan Andersson. We’re still carrying the liveliness we felt on The Sohmen Concert Hall stage. 🤍

Next up: at Norwich Theatre Royal, 24 May, 7pm. Come and see what happens when music moves.

🏘️ Music for Wellbeing

This week, we are taking to the road to once again deliver wellbeing workshops at Maggie’s Centres across Scotland, one of our favourite tours of the year.

Maggie’s is a charity that supports people who are living with cancer, and through emotional support and practical advice, Maggie’s centres provide an essential care service, free to anyone who needs it.

As Maggie’s official Music for Wellbeing partner, we visit each of their Scottish centres three times a year to offer free wellbeing sessions, bringing together visitors to share an intimate musical experience, discuss their thoughts and feelings about the music, and develop and practice skills in mindfulness.
