Today is . We would like to shine a light on the famous poem 'In Flanders Fields' which was written in May 1915 by Canadian Medical Officer Lt Col John McCrae during the Second Battle of Ypres.

The poem inspired the selling of poppies to raise funds to help disabled veterans after the war.

We're delighted to share "Keep Smiling," a brand new single from Stanley Bloom, featuring longtime Poppyscotland supporter Ali Duff, known as the Hairy Piper, on bagpipes.

Out today on all major platforms, the track is released in memory of Penelope Keith, Stanley's mother, who sadly passed away from cancer earlier this year. All proceeds will be split between Macmillan Cancer Support and Poppyscotland.

German defences proved too strong and losses were heavy for very little gain. Battalions from every Scottish regiment fought in the battle, an estimated 30,000 Scots. In total the British Army suffered over 50,000 casualties. The beacon at the top of Dundee's war memorial is lit every year on the 25th September.

The Battle of Britain was a decisive air campaign fought over the south of England in the summer and autumn of 1940. 15th September 1940 saw the Luftwaffe launch its largest and most concentrated attack against London in the hope of drawing the RAF into a battle of annihilation. Around 1,500 aircraft took part in the air battles which lasted until dusk.

Although fighting continued for another few weeks, the action on 15th September was seen as such a massive and overwhelming defeat for the Luftwaffe, this day has become known as Battle of Britain Day in the UK. It's also referred to as 'The Greatest Day',
