Starting this month, work will be underway to improve habitats on the Moss for its wildlife, and to protect the bog from erosion.
This will include: creating peat bog pools for dragonflies and amphibians; creating an additional pond for the protected colony of fossorial voles; closing off certain parts of the central bog where access has caused erosion to the peat and its fragile vegetation; installing 3 additional dams to slow down the movement of water from one compartment to another.
The work is being underpinned by Scotland’s National Peatland Plan.
