Glasgow has successfully secured funding for its own Climate Action Hub.

It’s been a great week in the office but the highlight was definitely getting the Glasgow Climate Action Hub partners together for a catch-up. Thanks to Izzie at ApparelXchange for hosting and for giving us a tour of your amazing warehouse operation. Lots of exciting stuff coming up in the next few months so please visit our website and sign up to the network or newsletter to be kept up to date. The sessions will finish at 12 and then lunch will be provided. Attendees are invited to stay and catch up with colleagues over food.

Transport
Paul and Sussie will be joining us from Get Glasgow Moving to discuss their volunteer-led campaign demanding better public transport for everyone in the Greater Glasgow Area. the work they have done with the Better Buses for Strathclyde to push for re-regulation of the bus networks, including the most recent campaign to use the proposed visitor levy revenue to fund better buses. There will also be opportunities for network members and attendees to discuss some of the work to help inform Get Glasgow Moving’s future activities.

Circular Economy
Jane Owens from Circular Communities Scotland and Lauren Hooper from Govanhill Baths (who are also key partners within the Glasgow Climate Action Hub) will also be joining us to discuss the Repair Café programme which contributes to some of the key pillars of climate action: repair, reuse, recycle. Jane will talk about what a repair café is, what’s involved in setting one up and the support available. There will also be opportunities for members and attendees to discuss some of the benefits and challenges of setting up these sorts of initiatives so that Circular Communities Scotland and the Climate Action Hub can understand more about the support needed in communities.

📢Join Us Next Week on Wednesday The 4th Of February For Our Latest Event!

GCCAN are collaborating with Glasgow City Council to offer an in-person, interactive consultation on Glasgow’s Climate Plan.

📅 Wednesday, 4th February
🕙 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
📍 26 Civic Street, Glasgow, G4 9RH

The session will run until 12pm and then lunch will be provided with an opportunity to connect informally with friends and colleagues until 1pm.

The session will be a mix of information sharing through presentations with group activities focussing on specific areas of the plan to allow for discussion, feedback and questions. Glasgow City Council’s Sustainability Team will be on hand to lead the discussion and answer questions..

As COP30 draws to a close and the world’s media considers the global impact, it’s important to remember the people and communities affected by the climate crisis and our role in driving change. It was great to see so many friends and colleagues take to the streets in Glasgow for the climate march organised by Friends of the Earth Scotland to remind those in power that our voices matter.

We’re also delighted that our good friend Andrew from Verture was able to attend part of the conference. He’s been promoting the amazing work happening in Scotland and using his time there to learn about different approached across the world, particularly how communities are adapting to the changes already happening. We’ll be working with Andrew when he’s back to bring some of those stories to our network to explore how they might inspire us in Glasgow. We were invited by colleagues to join a terrarium workshop at the amazing Glasgow Plant Mama!

The knowledge these guys have about nature, plants and their properties are insane. It was so interesting to hear about their background and their plans for the future and it's a wonderful reminder of the wealth of knowledge, skills and passion we have in our city.

I've already found the perfect spot for my terrarium.🪴
