STEKAskills STEKA is a grass roots Malawian NGO which creates sustainable futures for homeless and vulnerable children and young people. The STEKA Dialogues.

STEKAskills is a Scottish charity partnered with the Malawian charity STEKA (Step Kids Awareness) to create a brave space in which we build real solidarity between communities in Scotland and Malawi to bring about sustainable social change. It is led by grassroots activist and social entrepreneur, Godknows and his wife Helen, who campaign for children’s rights, gender equality and against early m

arriage. Godknows is a survivor of human trafficking and our work is driven by his mission to save children from this fate, and help young survivors build positive futures. As Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world, only 1% of people can go to college, and only 11% can complete primary school, so however ambitious they are, many young people can’t get the skills they need to get work and are vulnerable to traffickers. So our ultimate goal is to develop and sustain a STEKA Centre for Vocational Skills and Community Enterprise where people can learn the skills they need to set up their own businesses and earn their way to safe, sustainable futures. We plan to sustain the Centre and create quality jobs for marginalised Malawians through our innovative alternative to voluntourism. Freelance models, Alex & Katy, negotiated their fee in ice-cream for showing off their new hats. These gorgeous hats were made in Malawi by young people at StekaSkills. We collaborate with this Scotland-Malawi NGO in various ways and love the products which they sell.
These particular hats are already being well-used in Auckland where sun safety is a real issue (not like most of the time in Scotland!).

Have hats, will travel!
We hope to have some at a stall in the yardsale (Edinburgh) on 17th May .... exciting times 🥳

We so appreciate all that Charlie Miller Salons do for us . We are so proud of our Cat Nicolson hairdressing school and all it achieves. And thanks to last year’s sales at Charlie Miller we were able to buy a Starlink satellite dish so that all our learners can now access the internet- it’s all absolutely life changing. Thank you Charlie Miller staff and clients and happy Christmas to you all .

We need a supporter to run a stall at a table in a marquee at a beautiful venue in Lauderdale park, Dunbar on Sunday December 7th . It's a really lovely venue with a cafe and other craft stalls, so would be great fun. - please message us if you can help - or email [email protected].
