September was another busy month for the team at Turf, with hundreds of hours spent engaging with children, young people and families across our community.

Behind every number is a young person taking part, building relationships, learning something new, having their voice heard or simply having a safe and welcoming space where they can spend time with friends and trusted adults.

Our youth work is shaped by the young people who walk through our doors. By listening to what they are telling us, the conversations they are having and the things that matter to them, we can continue to develop opportunities that respond to the needs of local young people.

Here’s a snapshot of what September looked like across our September Youth Work provision.

If youd like information about any of our youth groups, please get in touch on social media or email us at: [email protected]

Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at Turf? 👀

One of our youth workers has given us a wee insight into what a typical Friday looks like, from the planning, preparation and admin to setting up the Hub, delivering our Friday Night Drop-In and the all-important tidy-up afterwards!

Our Hub is a hive of activity throughout the week, and while you might see plenty of pool, table tennis and fun, there’s so much more happening behind the scenes!

From planning activities and supporting young people to creating a safe, welcoming space where they can connect, learn and grow, our team works hard to make every session happen.

Here’s a wee look at what goes into making a Friday night at Turf happen! 👇

On Friday, we were delighted to welcome our local MSP Michelle Campbell, along with Ashley from her team, to the Neighbourhood Hub, where they had the chance to meet and speak with young people, staff and volunteers at our Friday Night Drop In.

It was great to give them a flavour of what day-to-day life is like at our Hub, to hear directly from young people about their experiences at Turf, and to see first-hand the impact our youth work offer has on local young people.

We were also delighted to be presented with a copy of a motion Michelle has submitted to the Scottish Parliament, recognising Turf and the work and achievements of our team within the local community.

It was a really special moment for our staff and volunteers to see the work happening every week at Turf recognised in this way.

The visit also gave us the opportunity to share more about Turf, the work happening across our community and some of our hopes and ambitions for the future as we continue to develop opportunities for local people to connect, learn and grow.

A huge thank you to Michelle and Ashleigh for taking the time to visit, listen to our young people and learn more about what happens here at Turf.

🥚 Can you protect the egg? 🥚

Our young people at our Friday Night Drop In put their teamwork and engineering skills to the test this week, designing and building a device that could protect an egg when dropped from height! 👷‍♀️🛠️📦

There were plenty of creative ideas, a bit of trial and error, and some impressive teamwork along the way… but the big question was…. did the egg survive? 👀🥚💥

Elsewhere at the Drop In, there was baking 🧁, arts & crafts 🎨, consoles 🎮, plenty of time to chill with friends, and lots of chat with our youth work team. 💬

Friday nights at Turf are all about giving young people a safe, welcoming space to spend time with friends, try something new and have youth workers around when they need us.
