Today, we hosted the second of three special afternoon teas to celebrate our incredible volunteers.🎉

These gatherings are a small way for us to thank the people who give so much of their time to support The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice. Whether welcoming customers in our shops, supporting patients and families, helping at events or lending a hand behind the scenes, our volunteers play a vital role in everything we do.

We were also proud to recognise a number of long service milestones, including volunteers who have been part of the hospice family for an incredible 40 years.

A heartfelt thank you to every one of our volunteers. Your kindness, commitment and support mean so much to everyone at 💙

Hospice care isn't needed just once a year.

It's needed on ordinary Mondays, sleepless nights, difficult mornings.

On days when families are trying to find their way forward.

It’s care, comfort and support when people need it most.

You have the power to make a real difference in the lives of local people who may be experiencing loneliness by becoming a Volunteer Befriender at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice.

We need kind, friendly, and positive people to join our team to help us provide companionship and support for people who are socially isolated and are dealing with life-limiting illness.

In return for committing to visiting someone in their own home, once a week for between 1-3 hours, we will provide you with Befriender Training, which prepares you to be a listening ear, enhance someone's life by your visit and be part of The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice Befriending Team.
Please get in touch with us to learn more by emailing [email protected]

Here's what some of our Volunteer Befrienders say:
"It has exceeded my expectations completely"
"I find being a Befriender truly humbling, heartwarming & inspiring"
"It would be good to have an abundance of Volunteer Befrienders so there is even more company to help with Loneliness"

Today marks the end of an era for The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice. Our longest-serving member of staff, Cans collector Helen Wilson retired today after an incredible 36 and a half years.

Helen is a well-known face in our local communities. She would visit shops, restaurants, cafes and other businesses to ensure their collecting cans were available for local people to donate to the hospice.

We are blown away by Helen's commitment and dedication for all these years to supporting the hospice to care for our patients and families.

Thank you Helen 💙

Staff and volunteers turned out to wish housekeeping assistant June Wyllie a very happy retirement.

June leaves us after 20 years with our housekeeping team at the hospice. She was with us in Carlton Place and moved over to the new hospice in 2018. June also volunteered for 18 years in our Rutherglen Hospice Shop on her day off.

June was always a happy and kind face for our patients, their families as well as for our staff and visitors.

We wish June all the very best for a happy retirement. 💙
