Glasgow Children's Holiday Scheme is 70 years old in 2026.

Founded in the Gorbals by Lilias Graham, her legacy continues to this day. Giving disadvantaged children and families something many of us can take for granted - a holiday, the chance to get away, experience new things and make memories.

To celebrate 70 years, we have (in addition to supporting over 200 families get a caravan break) enabled many groups and families to get a day out, supported local community events and plan to sponsor a Panto later this year. We also have an extended AGM on 16 November at 11a.m.

We are happy to hear from anyone with experience of our 70 years of making memories for many thousands of children, young people and families.

Well, the school summer holidays are over. Good luck to all heading back to school and especially to those starting in P1 or S1. We had another busy but hugely successful summer ensuring 57 families and a youth group enjoyed a break at our caravans. As one mum said, it's a great scheme. Without it, we would not be able to get a break and spend quality time and make memories with our children'.

As a family of two adults and four children, this trip has been an absolute blessing for us. Big thanks to volunteers from EDF Energy for helping out at our 5 caravans at Wemyss Bay Holiday Park ahead of the start of our peak summer period.

While many of us plan our own holidays, that opportunity is out of reach for the hundreds of children & families we support each year.

In 2026, we are 70 years old….. 70 years of providing children, young people and families the chance of a break, a holiday, a visit to the seaside, a trip to the country. From host holidays to caravan breaks to family and group days out. We exist to provide that opportunity which many of us take for granted yet is deprived to many across greater Glasgow.

To recognise and celebrate what the Holiday Scheme has achieved, we would love to hear from anyone who has benefitted from what we do or anyone who has helped out us out over the years.

To mark our 70th year, we have extended our Hilary’s Fund to support more children and young people to get a trip or day out as well as ensuring over 200 families get a caravan break. We also plan to sponsor a Panto performance close to where the charity was founded, the Citizen’s Theatre in the Gorbals. We will update our Making Memories booklet and host an extended AGM on Monday 16 November.

Making memories at Wemyss Bay Holiday Park with Glasgow Children's Holiday Scheme. 🤩

My wee one is loving the evening entertainment - can’t get him off the dance floor! It’s usually quite difficult to get him to engage in things with other children, and he’s been making friends left right and centre. It has truly warmed my heart and I’m so grateful to you for this opportunity! Thank you so much for everything!
