For university students across Scotland, Saltire Scholars is about more than the opportunity to secure a summer internship.

It’s an opportunity to build your employability, develop personally and professionally, grow your network and gain experiences that can help prepare you for life beyond university.

Through the 2027 programme, students will have the opportunity to:

🌍 Access 8–12 week summer internships, paid across the UK or fully funded internationally in Canada, the USA or Australia

💼 Build experience with CVs, applications, assessment centres and interviews

💡 Access exclusive learning courses, expert insights and development opportunities

🤝 Connect with employers, professionals and fellow Saltire Scholars

🏅 Work towards becoming a Saltire Scholar and earning a Badge of Excellence for your CV that can help demonstrate your achievements to future employers

A RECORD 208 SALTIRE SCHOLAR INTERNSHIPS 🎉

After months of assessment, personal development and applications, 208 students from universities across Scotland are undertaking internships across Scotland, the UK, Canada, the USA and Australia - our largest cohort in the programmes history!

We want to send a big congratulations to everyone who participated in this year’s programme.

And to those who didn’t secure an internship this time around, please don’t be too disheartened. We hope you’ve come away with greater confidence, a better understanding of your strengths, and some valuable experience to take into what comes next. For many students, Saltire is just one chapter in a much bigger journey.

If you’re eligible, we hope to see you again next year. And if you are a recent graduate - you will now enter our new graduate talent pool where we will share relevant graduate opportunities with you.

For now, we’re wishing all of our Saltire Scholars the very best as they begin what we hope will be an unforgettable summer. You’ve earned it!

Happy International Women in Engineering Day! 👷‍♀️

Today we’re celebrating the women in our Saltire Scholars community who are studying, working and building careers across the engineering sector.

Every year, Saltire Scholars undertake internships with organisations across Scotland and around the world, gaining hands-on experience in everything from mechanical and civil engineering to technology, energy, manufacturing and biomedical engineering.

We’re proud to play a small part in connecting and supporting the next generation of women engineers as they develop their skills, confidence and careers.

Here’s to all the women engineers in our community - past, present and future who are making a difference.

A pretty special moment for four of our Saltire Scholars in Boston last week. 🇺🇸

Nicholas, Logan, Ross and Megan had the opportunity to meet First Minister John Swinney while volunteering at the Scotland Business Reception, an event celebrating the connections between Scotland and the United States.

After travelling from Scotland to undertake internships in Boston this summer, they were able to share their own Saltire journeys and experiences directly with the First Minister.

Experiences like this are part of what makes a Saltire internship so memorable. It's not just about the work you'll do, but the people you'll meet, the connections you'll make, and the opportunities that can come your way along the journey.

A huge thank you to The Scottish Government in the USA, Saltire Foundation USA and our USA Host Company Partners for helping make these experiences possible.

Saltire Scholar Summer 2026 is now underway! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Throughout June, students from universities across Scotland have been setting off to begin summer internships with organisations across Scotland, the wider UK, Canada, the USA and Australia.

Working across a wide range of sectors and roles, they’re getting stuck into projects, meeting new teams, and building the skills, experience and connections that will support them long after the summer ends.

It’s taken months of applications, assessment centres, interviews and preparation to get to this point, and we’re excited to see the Scholars making the most of every opportunity that comes their way.

We’ll be sharing stories from across the cohort throughout the summer, so stay tuned to see where the journey takes them.

🎉 SALTIRE SCHOLARS CLASS OF 2026 🎉

This week, we brought together our Saltire Scholars Programme Class of 2026 for two Send-Off Celebrations in Glasgow and Edinburgh ahead of internships starting this summer.

Over the next few months, nearly 200 students from across Scotland will be heading off to internships across Scotland, the UK, Australia, Canada and the USA 🌍

The nights were all about celebrating the hard work that got everyone to this point, meeting fellow scholars, making new connections, and getting excited for everything still to come this summer.

And if you’re still in our 2026 Candidate Pool - don’t worry, internship matching is still continuing 👀 More opportunities are still to come, so keep checking the portal and keep applying.
