Clyde Scouts

Clyde Scouts Clyde supports Scout Groups across Glasgow, E. Dunbartonshire, E. Renfrewshire & N & S Lanarkshire. We give young people experiences they'll never forget.

Through the adventure of Scouting, young people get to take risks in a safe environment, and have their first taste of responsibility. In Scouting, we provide over 200 activities from abseiling to zorbing ('that's falling out of the sky in a foam ball in case you were wondering). If we don't have an instructor who can help we can normally find someone who can. But Scouting isn't just about activit

ies for their own sake. We encourage our young people to feel the buzz of the challenge and then reflect on what that means. Did they have fun? Do they feel more confident? Would they do it again? All this is made possible by the efforts of more than 1,800 voluntary adult leaders. With award winning training and one-to-one support, we make sure that each one of our volunteers gets to make the best use of their skills and talents. It's something different from the norm, and that why a lot of people like it.' In fact, it's what's made us the largest co-educational youth Movement in the country.

👋Welcome Maureen Boyle, Calder District Lead.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Maureen Boyle as our new District Lead Volunteer for Calder.

Maureen said:

“My name is Maureen, and I’m proud and, if I’m honest, a little nervous to take on the role of Calder District Lead Volunteer.

I believe Scouting gives young people opportunities, adventure, and valuable life skills, helping them build confidence, resilience, friendships, and memories. None of this would be possible without our dedicated leaders and volunteers, whose time, energy, and enthusiasm make Scouting happen across the district.

I would also like to thank Neil for his hard work, dedication, and commitment to Calder District over the past eight years. His leadership and support have made a real difference to so many volunteers and young people, including myself.

My Scouting journey began with a Lithuanian Scout group in the 1980s, and I am currently Akela at 1st Bellshill and Mossend.

As I begin this new role, I look forward to supporting our leaders and volunteers as we continue to provide the best possible experiences and opportunities for young people across Calder District.”

We would also like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to Neil, our Regional Lead for all that he has done in developing Calder District, the Groups and Teams over the last eight years.

We extend our heartfelt thanks, especially during Volunteers' Week, for everything Marion has done to positively impact the lives of young people, adult volunteers and communities. This recognition is richly deserved, and we are delighted to see her contributions celebrated in such a meaningful way.

Neil Kelly, Clyde Regional Lead Volunteer, said:

"It was wonderful to be a part of the YouthLink Scotland awards last night to see Dr Marion Rankin awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her work in Clyde Region.

Marion was the Regional Lead Volunteer for more than 12 years. She steered Clyde Region through many ups and downs, none more so than COVID19, and always had a smile on her face.

More than 8000 young people have benefitted from her leadership and inspiration, as they gained valuable skills for life, whilst having fun with friends.

Clyde Region will always be grateful to Marion for her selfless dedication to Scouting."

Barry Donald-Hewitt, Chief Volunteer of Scotland, said:

"Marion's outstanding contribution to Scouting in Scotland over decades cannot be overstated. I don't exaggerate when I say her leadership, grace and wisdom has helped shape thousands of young lives for the better. This award is so very richly deserved."

Congratulations, Marion, and thank you for the remarkable difference you have made.

Another Exciting Opportunity is Here!!!

Chief Scout, Dwayne Fields and adventurer Phoebe Smith founded the We Two Foundation, which runs life changing, fully funded expeditions across the world for underprivileged young people from across the UK.

Young people from Clyde have been fortunate enough to join their last two expeditions following in Shakelton’s footsteps to Antarctica in 2022 and then to the Galápagos Islands in 2024.

After their adventures, the young people run environmental projects in their local communities to pay forward their trip and to inspire others to pursue their own adventures.

Their next expedition will be to Morocco exploring the Sahara, camping in the desert with Berbers, building a vital link for a community in the High Atlas, and climbing the highest peak in North Africa.

Do you know an underprivileged young person aged between 16 and 19 years old who would benefit from this opportunity?

Visit www.teamwetwo.com to find out more and to nominate a young person
- nominations are open online until 7 June.

👋 Welcome Neil Kelly, Regional Lead.

We are delighted to welcome Neil Kelly as our Regional Lead.

Neil said;

"I’ve been Skipper to my scouts at 1st Bellshill & Mossend for 30 years, and I’ve also had roles as Assistant District Commissioner (Adult Training) and District Commissioner for Calder District.

I’ve camped on Brownsea Island, spent a night on HMS Belfast, climbed the O2, fell asleep during Aladdin and indoor skydived. I love all night’s away, be it camping, hammocks, survival shelters, bothies, hike camps, Christmas Eve camps and everything in between.

I proposed to my wife at Kandersteg (KISC) and whilst she has no scouting involvement, she is my biggest supporter and helps keep me sane. Alongside my daughter, who is a 16 year old Explorer and Young Leader, and she recently got me a jellycat peanut, because I’m allergic to peanuts!

I’m looking forward to the challenges the new role will bring and I’m ready to support you."

We are incredibly proud of all the King’s Scouts from across Clyde who took part in the National Day of Celebration at Windsor Castle recently. Their dedication, resilience and hard work have led them to this outstanding achievement — and they represented the Region with distinction.

It was equally inspiring to see the commitment of our adult volunteers recognised, including those receiving Meritorious Conduct and Gallantry Awards. These moments remind us of the courage, care and community spirit that define Scouting across Clyde.

Congratulations to every young person and leader involved — a truly proud day for the Region. 😃
